The Spouts on myPlate Taste Great on My Tounge

Jun 06, 2011

The Good: The USDA and the new "Food Plate" that is replacing the food pyramid. I personally think that the new image is more appealing and easier to understand. The simplicity of the design should make it easier to promote in schools and health classes. I think it's also a great visual for families to keep in mind when serving meals at home. I hope this is something that stays and plays an active role in promoting healthier lifestyle options for our society.

The Bad: The krauts have good sprouts! How terrible to read of the deadly E.coli outbreak in Germany that has killed 22 people, caused 2,153 people to be ill with 600 in intensive care! They originally linked the contamination to a farm south of Hamburg, but reports are now saying that it is not the source. Finger pointing is everywhere! And of course the longer time passes, the harder it is to pinpoint the source. How dreadful not to be able to eat a fresh salad in the middle of summer! I'm sorry all my EU friends, mom and dad -- stay healthy!

The (Good) Crazy: Tounge piercings are pretty cool.  I thought so back in college - I went to go get one with my roomate and promptly chickened out after she got hers. Well this tounge piercing is more than just pretty cool. Researchers at the Northwestern University School of Medicine have fitted a tounge ring stud with a magnet that allows a paralyzed young man to steer his wheelchair with his tounge! That's pretty crazy cool!
