Almost three months post-op

Apr 11, 2008

First I'd like to thank everyone for the helpful responses to my post on the message board last week. I finally went to see the doc about all the problems I've been having with pain and nausea when I eat. It turns out that I have an ulcer. The ulcer is right where the staples are at the bottom of my pouch. Just a warning...if you had the bypass surgery, you NEED to take an antacid prescribed by the doc to prevent this from happening to you. I spent 4 days in the hospital and it wasn't very much fun. I lost 10 more pounds while I was in there because they wouldn't let me eat any solid foods. Now I'm home and taking the right meds. I feel much better and can eat without discomfort. Thank goodness! I was really starting to regret having this surgery, and was starting to get depressed. After all, the trauma of the surgery, passing a kidney stone 3 weeks ago, then this ulcer crap! Kinda makes me wonder "what's next", but I better not jinx myself. Things are looking up, I've lost 69 pounds since I started my two-week pre-op diet on January 7th! I weigh less now than I have in almost 20 years! Whoo hoo!

Two months post-op...

Mar 23, 2008

It's been two months since my surgery and things have only gotten worse. A week ago I went to the ER with extreme pain in my side. Turns out I've got a kidney stone! I've got to try to pass this stone by drinking excessive amounts of fluids all day long and I can barely drink half a cup without getting sick to my stomach. I've lost a total of 55 pounds since I started my pre-op diet on January 7th. I'm just starting to notice my body getting smaller. I've lost weight before and it seems like I would notice the first 5 pounds back then, it's different now. My income has stopped and now I need to find a job. I don't mind the new job thing, it's the extremely low-energy that I have. Some days it's quite a job just getting out of bed and into the shower. It sure is a lot tougher than I ever imagined it would be and I know my energy will come back...but when?

Three weeks post-op...

So far, this hasn't been a good experience. I feel like crap, sick to my stomach all the time, have no energy at all, not sure if I made a good decision. Can't go back now.

I start my 2 week pre-op diet tomorrow...

Jan 07, 2008

Tomorrow is the beginning of this life-changing adventure that I'm embarking on. I'm starting the two week diet to shrink my liver and belly before surgery on January 22nd. I'm excited and nervous, but ready to begin.
