Hello, my name is Kristin. I am 32, married with 2 children. I had WLS on December 6, 2002 with Dr Mehta at St Peter's Hospital in NJ. As of, September 2004, I have lost 180 lbs! And I feel incredible!

Before my surgery I felt there was no hope for me. I was 5' 5" and weighed 314 lbs. I had tried everything, then feeling like a failure... I gave up on myself. I almost never left my house. I just went through the motions of the day, waiting for the day to end.

Then I began to research WLS and after 2 years and many discussions with my husband I decided that WLS was my way and hope to living a happier healthier life.

Dr. Mehta was everything I expected and more. He made my husband and I feel welcome, and he gave us a very good presentation and answered all our questions.

My surgery experience was great with no complications.

WLS has changed my life in so many ways. The energy level is just amazing.. I have rediscovered parts of my personality that were forgotten. The layers of timidity and shame have been removed and replaced with a level of confidence and self-assuredness that I thought I could never posses again. WLS has not only given me my life back, but I am experiencing life all over again!

Today because of WLS I feel like I am a better mom, a better wife and also a better person all together. I thank GOD everyday for WLS, Dr. Mehta, and all the wonderful friends from the MBC support Group that I have made through my WLS journey! I am so honored to be associated with such a strong and courageous group of people. People who care enough about themselves and their families to take whatever steps necessary to get healthy. I am so proud of our folks and I want to thank each WLS patient and their friends and families who are involved in our group. Your continued encouragement makes all the difference in the world.

My heartfelt thanks go out to everyone who supported my decision and encouraged me. Mostly, though, I would love to find the words adequate enough to thank my husband, Julius. As a morbidly obese person I often questioned why anyone would love me at all. Julius not only loved me but he nurtured me, supported me, spoiled me and stood beside me. I never had to take one step of this journey alone - we took it together, hand in hand. Thank you Julius, from the depths of my soul and the far corners of my heart for loving me and not being afraid to show it.

If you are reading this and feeling like there is no hope for you please don't give up on yourself just yet. Talk to Dr Mehta and see if he can help you change your life. I did, and I would do it again, over and over. I haven’t regretted my surgery for one second!

Life just couldn’t be any better!!!

Wow it been a while since I have updated!! Lets see over the last few years I had a major bout with iron deficient anemia, 2 hernia's, appendectomy, uterine fibroid removed and now I'm fighting with pains in my lower abdominal area. Going in for a endoscopy & colonscopy next week...keep your fingers crossed!

Everyone keeps asking if I regret my decision about having the gastric bypass since having all these problems...my answer is a firm HELL NO!! I have my life (and much, much more) back. Even though sometimes it doesn't feel like it with the problems I have been facing.   I am also battling a 15 lb weight gain....ughhh..... Isn’t it amazing how gracefully we accept the self-appointed role as our own worst enemy? Our thoughts about ourselves can have a huge impact on our weight loss. If you treat yourself like a failure, it can become self-fulfilling prophecy!   So... I'm choosing to work on replacing negative thoughts with positive ones.. at the end of the day it’s all about decisions.

Thank you all for your thoughts and prayers for a successful and uneventful surgery....they worked!!!

It has been 8 weeks since my lower body lift. The surgery went very well! Thank you Dr. C!!! I think this surgery was a breeze compared to my gastric bypass. I was up walking and using the bathroom by myself the next day, something I could not do without a lot of help when I had my wls. What I did not expect was the soreness in my thighs from the liposuction. I did go back to work on my 3rd week just for a couple of hours a day (sitting only). I didn't realize that you use stomach muscles for filing nails!! LOL I was tired after a while but I did just fine.

I am still very swollen but even on the first day just to look down at myself and see no extra skin hanging anywhere on my body was truly amazing!!

I am finally getting back to my normal routine, my head wanted to be there weeks ago but my body just would not let it! I went out and bought my first bikini!! Yes, a bikini!! Now....I don't know if I could ever wear it outside of my house... lol but it just felt good to go into a store and have the option to buy one.

Thank you!!!

I was very disappointed to find out that I had no out-of-network benefits so I will be paying for this surgery out of pocket. Which in reality is fine, after all aren't we all worth it?!
After meeting with Dr. Capella I knew I was not going anywhere else. From research I believe he has the most experience with wls patients for the lower body lift in NJ. I am scheduled for March 31st. I do not know if I am more excited or nervous, either way keep me in your prayers!
~till next time.....

I have by far exceeded my own expectations from this surgery. I have been holding my weight at 134 lbs for the past couple of months. Which gives me a total weight loss of -180 lbs!!! I am just really starting to research plastic surgery. Still a little scary to me.

4-26-2004
I think it might be getting to the time to research some plastic surgery. I keep getting infections in my bellybutton and my lower tummy. Sorry to be so frank but looking like a Sharpei continues to emotionally drain me...keep me in your prayers....

Happy Valentines Day to all my AMOS family!!

I woke up this morning with a little pink striped box with a black bow on my bed...to my surprise it was from VICTORIA'S SECRET!!!!!!!!!! To actually to be able to wear something from here is a wonderful milestone for me!!! I can not express how thankful I am for my hubby to take the time to pick out something just for me.

I will thankfully give up chocolate for a little pink box any day!

Just wanted to share with you that I just had a short stay at Hotel St. Peters. To make a long story short...my surgeon fixed an internal hernia, an adhesion, he also found some cysts on my ovaries (where one had burst) and found a healing ulcer. So, I am home and resting, getting better everyday! I will see the doc on Thursday and keep you posted!

I would like to tell you all that my 1 year blood work has come back PERFECT!! I must be doing something right!! I am down a total of -154 lbs! Feeling great. I've come along way baby!!

In September I joined an adult jazz dance class at my daughters school and will be performing in my very first dance recital!!!! I know...I cant believe it myself!!

Last year I never would have thought I would be doing the things I am doing now!!! Life is just incredible, now that I am living it!

This Saturday I will be approaching my 1 year wls anniversary. Needless to say I am overjoyed. What a magical year this has been. I have lost 144 lbs!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

10-15-2003
WOW 11 months out and I have lost a total of -134 lbs!! I'm wearing a size 14 sometimes a 12. Weight loss has slowed down and I can eat almost anything I want which makes things a little hard sometimes. I try to be very careful with my food choices.

Just got back from our vacation at Disney. I think I wore my kids out this year!!

I am now down -110 lbs!!!!!!!!!!! I'm am wearing a size 18 but soon to be in 16!!

I am feeling wonderful! For the longest time I thought I would never be able to go out and dine. I'm just really happy that I can go out and eat like a normal person. I was just interviewed for http://www.lightenupradio.com/ a talk show specifically for weight loss surgery. Please visit http://www.lightenupradio.com/audio/pop.cfm?doc=500 to hear my story.

Ok, once again, I have not been updating my profile in a timely fashion, that must be because I HAVE LOST 84 LBS and have sooooo much energy I can not keep still!

To sum it up....Things have been going wonderfully for me. I am now eating like a normal everyday person and I am sticking to my high protein menu. The hair loss has recently started but not really bad at all I just notice a little more hair in the shower drain. I have gone from a size 32/34 to a size 20!! Oh yes.....that word that begins with "E" (exercise) I'm trying really hard...I have been ducking the personal trainer but I do walk almost everyday ;0)

Most of all, I really enjoy having the energy to do things I want to do!

I now realize why the butterfly is the logo of the WLS community because I am metamorphosing and so will each of you!

My weight loss total to date is 41 lbs!!

I hadn't realized I did not update this page! Well in November I decided to change Dr's. Dr. Brolin is ever so busy, so I wound up changing to his associate Dr Mehta. My surgery was on Friday, Dec 6, 2002. Everything went extremely well and I was home the following Monday.

At home I had some problems with pain, which I had come to find out later were gas! LOL I am doing wonderful! I am down 33 lbs!!! I still cant believe it! To look down at the scale and it begins with a 2 is just truly amazing!

I went back to work this week. I work in a salon part time and it was great all my co workers and clients are so supportive! I'm still tired a lot so hopefully going back to work will help.

I am very lucky, so far I have been able to tolerate every food I have eaten!! I have had only one problem with food and it was my fault because I didn't chew it very well...

That's all for now...I go back to the dr for a check up next month...I will post more then! Happy New Year to all!

11-24-2002
My surgery is scheduled for Friday Dec 6th. When I received the call with my date I was surrounded with such a calmness...now talk to me the day before surgery and I'm sure it will be a different story!

11-19-2002
Went for my PAT's today...

9-2002
I received a letter stating my anticipated month of surgery will be in December.

5-21-2002
I'm just waiting patiently for a surgery date...

SURGERY IS APPROVED!!!!!!

2-23-2002
My date got bumped up to the 15th!! My consult went great. I am a LAP candidate. Waiting for referral to get some tests done, then hopefully get insurance approval!!

2-19-2002
Patiently waiting for March 22.....

12-18-2001
My insurance will change to Aetna as of the first of the year. One good thing is if I'm not mistaken Aetna covers Lap procedures...I might be looking for a different surgeon....

9-18-01
Exciting news...I just got my approval from my PCP! I didn't know that referrals expire in 6 months. So I will have to call back for my referral closer to my appointment with Dr. Brolin in March!

9-10 -01
Ok spoke to my Dr.'s office they told me they would call me back when my referral is ready. I called Dr. Brolin's office and I have an appointment for March 2002!!! Please tell me time will fly by!

9-5-01
My PCP told me a few months ago that he would not recommend this surgery because they have not had good response from my insurance company which is Cigna HMO. I have been debating this surgery for 2 years. I am ready do it but I have been discouraged and I don't know what step to take next. I have been on high blood pressure medication for the last couple of months, I have low blood sugar, high cholesterol, pain in my back and legs, swollen ankles....I could go on...I finally made this decision when my 4 year old daughter called me fat! I'm ready and don't know where to start...help!
