My WLS story - I decided to try WLS about 2 years ago.  My decision wasn't very hard to make.  I have a very active son, and felt like I was missing out on alot of things with him.  Then, at 24 years old I reached my biggest weight and was diagnosed with Type 2 Diabetes.  After talking to my regular physician, talking to several people who had WLS surgery, and a ton of internet research, I decided to make the first appointment with the surgeon.  I chose a surgeon who had a great reputation, and then talked to more people who had used him in the past.  Everyone I talked to at that time said getting approved through my insurance company was easy; well it wasn't so easy for me.  Even though I met all of the requirements and did everything they asked, I was denied twice.  At that time, I decided to wait until January 2008.  I restarted the whole process in January and was approved the same day my information was sent to my insurance company.  I Couldn't Believe It!!

My surgery was performed August 22, 2008.  I haven't had any major complications since my surgery, but I did have a stricture.  At the time I got sick I really didn't know what a stricture was, or why I had one.  Luckily, I had a good surgeon who sent me to a good GI doctor.  I had one outpatient procedure done by the GI doctor, and have been getting better and feeling stronger everyday.  I feel great, and even though there are times where I feel like I'm not losing, or not losing fast enough; I know this was the best thing that I could do for me and my child.
