Sleep Study and Iowa City Trip

Aug 04, 2007

Well, I went to Iowa City this past Wednesday to see a specialist regarding the mass that was found on my pancreas.  He has schedule me for this Tuesday, August 7th, to have an Endoscopic Ultrasound and biopsy done.  I just hope everything turns out ok.

Had my sleep study last night.  What an adventure.  I have never seen so many wires!  I will not get the results until next Friday so add this to my list of waiting games.

I have my consultation with Angie this Thursday also.  Hope everything goes well with it.

Finally heard from University of IA Hospitals

Well, I finally received a call from University of Iowa Hospitals this past Thursday.  They have schedule me for a consultation with Dr. Gerke this Wednesday (8-1-07). I pray everything goes well and I can get the necessary test scheduled.  I am so afraid this may slow down my WLS process.

The Journey Has Begun

Wow! Where to start!?

I initially contacted my PCP and scheduled an appointment to discuss WLS. I knew I wanted Dr. Glasscock for my surgeon and from reading many posts knew some of the pre-op testing that would be required.  When I called to make the appointmnet my doctor went ahead and scheduled my EKG, blood work , and overnight pulse ox test.

I went for my appointment and found out my cholestreol is slightly elevated and that my oxygen level is dropping into the low 80's when I am sleeping. My full sleep study is scheduled for 8-3-07.  While I was there I told her about this abdominal pain that I have been having since the end of May.  She ordered more blood work and an abdominal ultrasound. The ultrasound didn't show anything but my blood levels for the pancrea were high.

From here I was referred to a specialist. I went to see him on July 13th. He scheduled me for a colonoscopy and an EGD. Those were done on July 16th. They showed everything to be fine.  He also schedule me for a CT scan on July 17th.  This is where the problems start.  The CT Scan shows a growth on my pancreas.  I am now waiting for the University of IA Hospital to call me with an appointment to have an endoscopic ultrasound done.  I just pray that it isn't cancerous.  I have also had a small bowel follow through x-ray (no results back on this yet) and a bacteria overgrowth breath test which was negetive.  I am supposed to have fructose breath test next Monday, July 30th.

I did however on July 17th attend the seminar that Dr. Glasscok requires. My initial consultation with Angie is set for August 9th.  I have also scheduled my pshyc eval for that date also with Dr. Raju while I am already in Cedar Falls.
