My story starts out at about 11 years old. I was always a little chubby growing up but it was not until I hit puberty that my body turned on me. In 8th grade I weighed 180 pounds on my 5'0 frame. When I was 16 I took exlax after everytime I put something in my mouth. I got down to 125 in a very short time. I also got very sick. The weight came back. I had my first baby at 21 and gained about 40 pounds. # years later I had twins and only gained 20 pounds, but did not loose the weight from my first baby. I tried every diet I heard of from the cabbage soup diet to weight watchers to Jenny Craig. I lost weight on all of them, 20 pounds here, 15 pounds there, but could never keep it off. Fast forward 11 years later I have 5 kids ( 14,11,11,2,1) and weigh 240 pounds.

I have been researching gastric bypass for the past year. I went to an informational meeting at the hospital back in march of last year and started the process. I saw the nutritionist and went to one class that they held. My insurance requires that I be on a supervised diet for six months. When I went to see my PCP I felt like a huge failure. He was just so degrading that I never went back. I recently recieved a letter from the hospital saying they missed me and if I was still interested to get in touch with them.

I am at the point in my life that I can no longer live with the exta weight. As of right now I do not have diabetes, but my father was diagnosed at 40 (4 more years) and I can hardly walk from the stiffness in my joints to my knees and my ankles just aching. I have 2 small children and I just don't have the stamina to chase after them, and getting down on the floor and then back up is a sight to be seen.
I am looking forward to getting this done. The next class starts Jan.12. I a making an appointment to see a different PCP to start my supervised diet. I hope to have surgery this summer.
