UPDATE 12/20/12

Life takes interesting turns.  I am 11 years post Rny. In the past 5 years post total hysterectomy and then in full on menopause I have not been a good girl.  Today I am at 202#. Oddly, it's not until the last couple of months that it bothered me as I started packing on pounds very quickly. Prior to that I stayed about 175# and it was liveable.  I have continued to be a fairly good eater and had few restrictions, but obviously this has gotten out of hand.  3 months ago I started to have intermittent pain in the tied off stomach of my RNY, a kind of burning sensation and constipation.  I decided since I had moved to a new area (Ventura, CA) and there is a famous WLS surgeon (Dr. Billy Helmuth) here I would get a consult.  Turns out I have an ulcer or hernia in the part of my body I call stomach #2.  The stomach where I eat/drink is stomach #1.  I had a CAT scan in stomach #2 and the results were not clearly a hernia or ulcer, but likely. Stomach #1 I had a nasal endoscopy and its doing great (but for the weight gain).  I didn't think this consult would start me on the road to a possible revision but on 12/28/12 I am getting the hernia/ulcer fixed via outpatient laproscopy and insurance covers it 100%, hooray.  Now the question is, what will the "Apollo endosurgery" cost if we do it at the same time?Hmmmm.  Has anyone had this procedure? I saw a youtube video on it and it basically squeezes the stoma back to where it was when I had the RNY.  I would love to lose that 50# and have the second chance.  Fingers crossed that I can afford the extra part of the procedure to make that happen, and if not, I have had an awakening that I need to get back on track. Has anyone else been through this and have any good advice?  Many thanks OH and to all my fellow WLS peeps!

* * *

I started at 254#. Today I am 162#. (I should be 159 according to charts for a large frame at 5'7"). I am not going to tell you my weight didn't go back up, because it did. I leaned on the easy part of the surgery and got lazy afterwards. My weight got back up to 206! However, call it God (I do), but I started to have female problems (I'm 51 now). I ended up with anemia, my fibroid problems came back with a vengenance and no amount of iron seemed to make it better for awhile. Eventually, I gave into the need for a hysterectomy-and I'm so glad I did. I don't know about others, but somehow it put me back on the track for losing weight again, almost like I had WLS again. I just didn't have an appetite. It was such an incredible blessing. I am back eating less and better, exercising, my iron is back up..and I feel better than ever. The hysterectomy experience was a Lap procedure, just like my RNY..and so now I have dashes in several places on my tummy..but so what?! In between the WLS and the hysterectomy, I had an abdominoplasty (don't confuse this with a tummy tuck-those are waaay easier to recover from!) and so my tummy is flat, I have a waist and I'm in size 8/10 jeans. (NEVER was in my whole life before). So, thats basically my story.
