Like others, I have been dieting on and off most of my adult life.  I've had successes and then again failures.  With increase health risks, I finally made a decision to go forward and and have weight loss surgery.    Being a wife, a mom, a nurse, a sister and a friend....it was finally time for me to take care of myself and put me first.

In November of 2009...Black Friday to be exact, my two older sisters and I were on our way to the local mall for some serious Christmas shopping.  While in the car, I told them that I had something to tell them.....there was dead silence in the car.  Up until this point, I had not told anyone that I was seriously thinking about the lap band or gastric bypass surgery.  My sisters held their breaths as they thought I was going to tell them something bad was happening to me.  They were so relieved when I told them that I was seriouly thinking about having WLS.  I waited with great trepidation....thinking that they would try to talk me out of this.  But, to my surprise, they both told me that it was a good idea and they would support my decision.  I must also tell you, that I do have the two best sisters anyone could ever have.  We are always there for one another.

Next, I told my husband about my plans and he too was on board with it.  We have been married for twenty eight years and have been blessed with 24 year old identical twin boys.  My husband and boys encouraged me to do what I needed to do  to become a healthier and happier person.

So, on January 13th, I attended my first seminar regarding WLS.  My sister, Nancy came with me for support.  When the lecture was over, I signed up for my consultation.
Due to the the ever changing and unpredictable New England weather, my consult was cancelled due to snow.....grrr.

Finally, March 4th...I met with the doctor and his nurse practioner.  It was decided that the gastric by-pass would be better suited for me.  So, now the ball is rolling.  I have had all my blood work done and all my tests have been scheduled.  UGI, stress test. sleep apnea test, nutritional consult and psych consult.  I have also met with my primary care doc who said she will back me any way she can. All the testings should be finished my the end of April.   So my journey has started to a new, happy and healthier me.
