Lucy, I am using your surgery page to post this because I am at work and do not want to use my work e-mail. Got a virus last week from someone I e-mailed directly. Thankfully they didn't get thru.

I saw your post on the message board about your daughter. I had my first surgery, a VBG, when I was 21 in 1995. I did really well. Lost most of my weight. I dated but not very much. I re-met my husband in 1998. We had gone to high school together. We married in 2000 and sometime in 2001 I had a staple line disruption and gained back most of my weight. Very common with VBGs. I have since been revised to an RNY in July of this year and have lost half my excess weight. My husband has been really supportive. Thru out all of this I went back to college, received my degree, he got out of the Coast Guard, we bought a house, but no kids yet.

I believe that young people, especially young women, that have grown up overweight are very mature. We have had to put up with a lot of mean/hurtful comments about our appearance. I think that your daughter will do wonderful with her surgery because you have gone before and will be there to guide her.

Good Luck,
Alison
