I can't say that I spent my whole life fighting this battle with my weight.  Seems like I dieted my way up the scale...It's so hard for me to believe when I look back at pictures when I was around 19 that I felt soooo fat compared to others, because I wasn't.  That's when I started OTC diet pills, diet colas, slim-fast, caffiene pills.  I'd drop 12 pounds then rebound 18, drop 11 pounds, gain 19, over and over and over and over and over again.  Then with my divorce in 2000 came an unexpected loss of about 80 pounds with no effort whatsoever and then 2 years later the regain-- 150 POUNDS!!!!!  After that I pretty much gave up on myself.  I put myself through nursing school and started a new career, but come on, how can you take care of other folks when you can't even take care of yourself? I looked into WLS, but my insurance didn't cover it.  I knew I'd have to self-pay so with research I had figured out that RNY was a much better fit for me.  So, one more last-ditch effort (Medi-fast) which brought me from my all-time high of 310 to 290. Nothing like having a car accident and being strapped to a spine-board that takes 4 big-strapping (and sexy) firemen to lift to let you know that it's going to take more than just dieting.  At that time my insurance had started to once again cover WLS and I started serious research into it.  Because the hospital I work for actually owns and administers the 3rd party insurance we have,  coverage is only paid at our facility with the one surgeon who performs the surgery here. RNY or Lap-Band were my only options.  Dr. Pinson is super-gifted as a laproscopic surgeon and while he prefers Lap-Band and was apprehensive to go ahead with RNY because of my hx of bilateral PE in 2005, my surgery was December 2, 2008.  Like everyone else, my only regret-- NOT DOING IT SOONER!!
