12 More days!

Jan 15, 2009

It has been a loooong time since I have updated this.  Since the last time that I blogged I finished my 6 month diet required by insurance.  It seemed to be taking forever while it was happening, but now that I am on the other side of it the time passed kind of quickly.

My surgeons office submitted my paperwork to the insurance company on December 16th, and I was approved on the 29th.  It took about two weeks, but I assume that was because of the holidays.  I thought that I would be nervous and impatient while I was waiting, but miraculously I wasn't.  Maybe it was my positive outlook that I just knew that I would be approved (LOL), or maybe it was that I got a date in October before my paperwork was even submitted (more probable).  My surgeon and everyone in his office have been really great, and have made this a painless road to travel.  Their knowledge about pre and post-op life as well as their understanding of the way that insurance companies work have kept me from feeling any anxiety about the process up to this point.

I have started to buy the things that I will need to be successful post op.  Getting healthy is a really expensive proposition, but I will gladly spend the money to not have to continue to be obese.  I have gotten about half of the vitamins that I will need post-op.  I am still on the fence about what kind of multi-vitamin to get.  I am currently going back and forth between liquid Island Oasis, Bariatric Advantage chewables, and Centrum silver Chewables.  I have seen a lot of advice on here about the vitamin issue and I have to decide if I want to go with the liquid which some people say has the best absorption, but is the most expensive, centrum, which is the cheapest but seems to make constipation worse in some, or bariatric advantage which is more expensive, but doesn't seem to have the constipation issues.

So my new life will begin in 12 days on January 27th.  I will be turning 30 about 8 months after surgery and I have been brainstorming on what some of my goals will be by then, but more on that later (I don't want to be too long-winded).

6 Months

Jul 07, 2008

I had my appointment with the surgeon and it turns out that I have to do a 6 month medically supervised diet before my insurance company will approve it, so it looks like I will hopefully be having my surgery in Jan. '09.  Let the wait begin! Sleeping

Got the call

May 27, 2008

I got the call on friday to set up my first consult with Dr Brader and the program coordinator.  It will be on Friday June 6th.  I can't wait Way Too Happy !  I also have to go back on June 11th to meet with the dietician and the exercise person (I can't think of their title).  She told me that the insurance company has tentatively said that they will cover it as long as I prove medical neccesity, so

Waiting....

May 19, 2008

I went to my first informational meeting on may 8th.  I learned a lot and was given a packet of information to fill out and mail back in, which I did the next day.  I waited for a week with no word, so  I called them today and was told that the secretary was on vacation and that I should get a call this week to schedule my first appointment since she comes back to work tomorrow.   I also called the insurance company to find out what their requirments are and was told that it probably isn't covered because most jobs don't cover it. After I told her that i know for a fact that my job does cover it she looked in the computer and told me that she couldn't find them in her system .  I find that funny since I  can guarantee that once my surgeon submitts my forms for approval that they will have a whole set of hoops for me to jump through.
