I have struggled for years with "metabolic syndrome" - an insulin disorder that causes, among other things, weight gain and the inability to loose weight. I have spent 14 years researching how to "fix" my problem. I discovered that one of the side effects of the band is a reduction in insulin production! Wow! This is my cure!

I underwent Lap-Band surgery on June 4, 2007. We paid out of pocket by means of a second mortgage on our home. When my surgeon filled my band with 1cc of fluid (around 6 weeks post op) I began vomiting or rather, regurgatating. I have spent the last year doing this several times per day. After the endless questions like: "are you eating the wrong foods?" or "are you chewing enough", I had enough. I wasn't loosing weight - my metabolism had completly shut down, I was tired of throwing up - I actually injured my neck with the repetitive strain and I was discouraged. How do you not chew yogurt or ICE WATER enough??? UGH!

After exhaustive testing, they discovered a hiatal hernia, but didn't think it was large enough to cause my problem. I finally convinced my current doctor to correct the hernia - after all, my insurance WILL pay for that... They got in and discovered my band was sitting at the very top of my stomach, right across the opening from my esophagus... That, my friends, was the cause of the vomiting!! They were able to reposition the band, test it, AND fix the hernia. This was completed on July 15, 2008.

I am back to loosing weight. I haven't vomited since surgery, and I have no grinding pain in my abdomen! Praise God and the fine medical staff responsible for this additional miricle in my life!!!
