Louise, I had my surgery 10/31/02 also. You emailed me. My surgery went very well. The anastesiologist came to see me a couple of days after surgery and told me that they were expecting lots of problems because of my health issues (rheaumatoid arthritis for one)BUT instead once I was hooked up to all the monitors, I stayed within the normal range during the whole surgery and he didn't have to do anything. Its the first time that has happened for him and he was amazed and felt it necessary to tell me. I would say that all the prayers paid off. My recovery has been a little challenging however because of the RA. My ribs hurt because my cartilage is not plyable like normal and I feel like I have a broken rib. I developed pleurisy of the lung and had to have my lung tapped for fluid. I was able to start back on my RA meds 4 weeks after surgery so 95% of my pain is from the RA until my meds kick in. Food doesn't sound interesting yet. The surgery has definitely changed how food taste. I enjoy soups the most right now. I have only weighed at the surgeons office so far as I don't have scales at home. I have lost approximately 50 lbs as of 12/11/02. Surgeon says that is too fast I can sure see a big difference already. I haven't gotten to the point of saying I am glad I had the surgery yet because of all the problems I have had since I have been home, but I'm getting there. I'll check with you later. Best wishes for this new year and you are in my prayers.

Hello all. I am now 11 days post op and down 18 pounds. Everything is going well so far. I'm not hungry, but when I see food I long for it. I know things will get better as time goes on. I won't always be on pureed food. So far I am very happy with my results. I went to see my pcp today and he was very pleased with my results so far. He was against the surgery but said I am making a beliver out of him. I hope all is well with everyone. For all having insurance trouble keep the faith it will happen when the time is right. For those having a difficult time I pray that things will soon improve for you and that God will watch over you and heal you. For those waiting for a date be patient. I know it is hard to wait for a date but when it comes it will come when it is the right time for you. To all post ops I pray that you reach all of your goals. To those waiting on surgery my prayers to you are for a successful surgery and a pain free recovery. God Bless all of you.

Hi AMOS family. Well I am now seven days post op. I had open VBG RNY on Oct 31st. I am now home and and so far everything is going well. Nine pounds lost. The first two days were pretty bad. I'm not sleeping to well at night, I just can't get comfortable. My surgeon does not believe in sending pain meds home with you, so it has been a little tough, but each day seems to be getting a little easier. Today I started pureered food and so far everything has sat well. I'm on my way. I especially thank God for bringing me safely through the surgery. My family for their support and everyone who has prayed and wished me well. It was a long battle for me to have this, and I can hardly believe that I am now on the losing side. So everyone fighting insurances don't give up. Keep fighting it will happen when the time is right. I know the feeling of dissapointment, but you must never give up. Be persistant, I was. My prayers to all no matter where you are on your wls journey.
