Starting My Journey

Feb 29, 2008

I can't wait to kiss this big fanny and belly goodbye!

I found this forum after searching for some form of comfort, looking for others who are in the same situation as I am with my weight.
I remember being a little chunky when I was about 6 years old and have had weight problems off and on my entire life.

Like many others, I've tried so many "diets" that I lost count. Some of them are pretty funky too!  The funny thing is listening to others who have lost "10 - 20" pounds to get to their goal weight, try to explain to me how to "just lose the weight".

Guess what!  We ALL know how to lose weight. I've lost hundreds of pounds over the past 20+ years, of course to gain it all back plus some. I finally thought that I had it all figured out in the fall of 2003 when I started the Atkins diet. Oh I did so well!  I dumped about 70 lbs and felt great. I was still overweight by about 30 or so pounds, but at least I kept it off for 3 years.

I stopped smoking last year on Valentines Day and my weight kept creaping, and creaping, and creaping up. I knew that I had gained "a few" pounds, but I didn't realize just how bad I let it go until I stepped on the scale.

Well, I have had enough of this and decided that I need medical intervention to help me with this insanity. I attended a Lap Band seminar a few weeks ago and after doing some deep soul searching and praying, I've decided that I'm going to move forward with getting "banded".

My insurance will not cover the procedure, so I'm going to be a self-payer. I don't have that kind of spare-change laying around anywhere. So I'm waiting for some funds to I have my first appointment next Wednesday with Dr. Korn. I'm nervous, but excited.

I'm trying to learn as much as possible about life after surgery, and to really try to understand my expectations about this surgery. I know it's not a silver-bullet, it's more to me like a tool to help me get where I need to be.
