Where to start??? I have been overweight all my life. I think I was over 200 lbs by the time I was in about 7th or 8th grade. I have been on every diet known to man and have probably lost and gained back more than 500lbs. I am 33yrs old, married for 15 yrs and have a beautiful 13 yr old daughter. My weight hit an all time recorded high of 284 pounds in July of 2006. Oh yeah, and I am 5' 8".
It was right after this that my PCP brought up WLS. I guess he had run out of diets and diet drugs to give me. He basically told me that if I didnt do something about my weight now I was going to be a diabetic in 5 yrs and with the arthritis in my knees I wouldnt be able to walk if I kept gaining weight. Basically I was killing myself. That was a wake up call.
MY PCP made an appoinment for me with a Bariatric Surgeon. I will see him in Jan. 2007. This was the earliest appointment he had. So now I have 2 months to sit around and think about everything.
I have called my insurance company and know that WLS is a covered procedure and had them give me the approveal criteria. They will require me to loose 10% of my origianl weight before approval so I guess I will get started on that. I have already lost 10 pounds from the 284 which means I need to work on the next 18. I can lose weight its the keeping it off I have the problem with. I desperatly want a productive active life hopefully I am on the road to making that a reality.
