The following history is from my previous profile from Aug 2005 to Oct 2006.

AUGUST 2005
I'm 38, have the greatest husband, 2 wonderful daughters... ages 16 and 12.  I'm 5'3" and my current weight is 220 lbs.  I've researched WLS for months and started this journey 6/21/05 with my first call to find a surgeon.  I'm attending a WLS seminar  8/17/05.  Like most people here, I've struggled most of my life with weight.  I remember my mother taking me to weight watchers at about 10 yrs old.  I've also struggled with depression and was diagnosed with bipolar disorder in 2003.  I've tried everything from weight watchers (4 times), jenny craig, nutra system, herbal life, hypnosis, phen fen and countless other diets.

AUGUST 17, 2005
(220 lbs, Pre-op)
I first learned of Dr. Garth Davis from a well known plastic surgeon here in Houston.  Dr. Davis holds monthly seminars concerning gastric bypass.  We attended one of his WLS seminars tonight.  My husband was very supportive.  I felt weird when we walked into the meeting though.  The room was full and we had to walk to the back to find a seat.  I got some dirty looks, like I didn't belong there.  I had never heard of being a "lightweight" before.  That term is applied to patients needing to lose between 100 - 125 lbs.  People shouldn't judge my decision for WLS.

AUGUST 19, 2005
(218 lbs, Pre-op)
I saw my pcp today.  She doesn't agree with WLS but she reluctantly said she'd support me.  Her first letter of support even said that she didn't think it was in my best interest, but that I had failed at numerous diets under her care.  Whatever!  I really had to convince her.  Today, I also called and made a consultation appt. with Dr. Garth Davis...will see him Sept 6th, 2005.

SEPT 6, 2005
(217 lbs, Pre-op...220.2 @ Dr. Office)
I had my consultation today with Dr. Davis.  I really like him a lot. And I've decided that I will absolutey do this.  After months of research, I feel positive about my decision.  I've kept it to myself for the most part.  I don't want to hear negative comments from others...those that don't understand the pain caused from being obese.  I now need to make appts. with the hospital dietician and I need a psych evaluation.  Surgeon's office said they'd take care of insurance approval.

SEPT 12, 2005
(216 lbs, Pre-op)
Psych evaluation and dietary consultation next Monday, the 19th. Then my paperwork will be submitted to United Healthcare, along with letters of support from my pcp and my personal pysch dr.  My pcp needs to write a 2nd letter, because my surgeon requested more information from her.

SEPT 19th, 2005
(Pre-op  219.2 @ Dr. office)
Psychiatric evaluation and dietitian appt went great!  The dr. said that I was more prepared than a lot of her patients.  I was nervous, but everything went fine.  I answered several pages of questions.  I understand that losing weight will not make my life perfect.  But I'm determined to be healthy and I know that will bring happiness.  I need to call my PCP and see if she's faxed her 2nd letter to Dr. Davis yet.

OCT 8TH, 2005
(217.5 lbs, Pre-op)
I haven't posted lately.  I've been waiting for my PCP to re-write her letter.  She's taking forever and I'm really getting upset.  Does this mean WLS is not for me?  I've asked God to guide me through this journey...Am I listening to Him?

OCT 13th, 2005
MY 39TH BIRTHDAY!! ... and my oldest turned 17 yrs old on Oct 16th.   I pray this is the last birthday that I'm obese.

NOV 5th, 2005
(222 lbs, Pre-op)
My paperwork was finally submitted to UHC on 10/31.  My surgeon's office rec'd the info from my pcp, but then they held it from 10/10 - 10/31.  Is this another sign from God?  I want this so much.  And I'm getting so impatient.  I feel like precious time is passing me by.  I've gained a few pounds too.  Ughhhhh

Nov 5th, 2005
(222 lbs,  Pre-op)
My office had an open house party and this pictures is from the party.  I hate my picture taken, so I was really uncomfortable.  And the clothes I'm wearing are just so ugly.  Could barely find anything to wear that fits.  I refuse to buy size 22's.

NOV 14, 2005
(225 lbs, Pre-op)
I'M APPROVED!!!!!!!!!  Yea, I'm so excited! I've called Dr. Davis to make the surgery date.  Waiting to hear back from them.  ----
OMGosh...it's 2 hours later and I just found out that I'm actually NOT approved yet.  Stupid guy at UHC read my file wrong.  I'm so disappointed.  I just feel that this is not going to happen.  There's no way I'll be able to self-pay.  Between my surgeon's fee and hospital fees...this surgery costs about $30,000

NOV 16, 2005
(224 lbs, Pre-op)
Well, it's been a couple crazy days.  I thought I was approved, then found out that I wasn't...just still being processed.  But tonight, my surgeon's office called me.  It's totally official!   They'll call tomorrow to set the date...Thank You God..  I'm so excited.  I have nothing
but a positive outlook for my future.

NOV 17, 2005
YEA!!!  My date is set for Nov 28th.

NOV 22, 2005
I went to the hospital to do my pre-op tests.  It was so easy and everyone was so nice.

NOV 23, 2005
(225 lbs, Pre-op)
This has been a bad day.  I had an appt. this morning to see my pcp so I could get my high blood pressure meds in chewable form.  Before I left the house, my surgeon's office called and said there is an abnormality with my EKG from yesterday's pre-op tests.  Now I have to get
clearance from my pcp or my cardiologist for surgery.  I cried all the way to my pcp...she has been so negative about WLS so I knew she wouldn't help me with this.   She did refer me to a cardiologist and I was able to
get in today.  I couldn't believe that I could get in to see a new dr. with only hours notice.  I haven't been to my regular cardiologist in at least 10 yrs.  My pcp handles all my blood pressure problems.  Anyway, the new dr. was so wonderful, but unfortunately...their EKG was also
abnormal, so surgery is cancelled until more tests can be ran.  I have an appt on 11/28 (supposed to be surgery date) for stress test and echocardiogram.  I know I must have a healthy heart, but I can't help but be so sad.

NOV 28th 2005
(225 lbs, Pre-op)
I'm on the biggest roller coaster!  Up, down, up, down.  All of my tests today with the cardiologist went well.  He has faxed clearance to my surgeon this afternoon.  My tentative date is now Dec 30th, 2005.  I'm also on the top of the cancellation list, so my date may be moved up.  I'm okay with it though...just glad I don't have to re-do everything for 2006 Insurance requirements!  I really like my new cardiologist.

NOV 30th, 2005
I've been moved up!  My new date is Dec 19th.

DEC 5th, 2005
(227 lbs, Pre-op)
I'm gaining weight and I'm mad at myself.   But I'm so excited for the 19th to come.  I'm ready to start my "new" life.  I haven't felt nervous, but I think I must be because I'm eating more.  I pray that I will change not only my eating habits with WLS, but my emotional attachment
to food.  I have began talking to my therapist about what to expect from surgery.  I will continue as long as I need.  I don't want to one day be slim, but still feel so fat.  I want to take care of my mind and my body.

DEC 16th, 2005  (Weekend before surgery)
It's now Friday night and my surgery is Monday, the 19th.  I've started my liquid diet today and will continue through Sunday.  OMGosh...I'm so ready and so excited for Monday.

DEC 23rd, 2005
(219 lbs Post-Op)
I'm home!  And feeling so good.   My surgery was Monday, the 19th.  Everything went pretty good.  I only hurt where my drain was.  My biggest problem was the morphine drip.  I kept using it, not realizing it was
making me nauseous.  Finally stopped it and took liquid pain medicine.  I didn't get sick after that.  I could walk pretty good, but getting up and down was hard.  At the hospital I could drink sips of water and my 3 meals were broth and jello.  I had my drain taken out a couple hours
before going home and it didn't hurt.  Since I've been home, I've taken my liquid pain medicine every 4-6 hours, depending on what I'm doing.  I've have no problem getting 2 oz of liquid in per hour.  Tomorrow I go to 1 cup of liquid per hour and 4-5 meals of pureed food at 2-3 oz's each.   Today has been a great day.  I've already walked 1/2 mile.  I have a ton of energy.  I'm not having any problems getting my vitamins and other meds in...just takes a little organization.  I will take vitamins
for the rest of my life.  I will take a daily multi-vitamin, extra iron, extra calcium and a daily b-12.  Because of food malabsorbtion, I need the extra nutrients.  I have NO regrets for this surgery.  Funny thing...I checked into the hospital Monday at 222 lbs, but came home on
Wednesday weighing 229.  But this morning (Friday), I'm now 219.  Thank you God for keeping me safe and giving me this wonderful gift.

DEC 28th, 2005
(210.5 Post-Op)
I'm doing so fantastic.  I haven't had any problems with any foods and everything is digesting well.  I'm now walking about 2 miles.  I'm in the soft foods/pureed time period for another week.  I have found that if I just chew, chew, chew...I don't have to puree everything.  I'm
trying to get more and more protein each day.  I get full very quickly...I eat 5-6 times a day though.  I'm also already off my blood pressure med.  I can't believe how fast, but my blood pressure is in the normal range.

Dec 31, 2005   HAPPY NEW YEAR TO EVERYONE!!
(207 lbs Post-op)
This is the last day of the last year that I'll be overweight!  This surgery is a Blessing to me.  It's been much easier than I expected.  It's still hard work though.  I've heard people say that WLS is taking the easy way out.  Well, I'll tell you...there's nothing easy about having
your entire digestive system altered.  It takes planning to eat the correct balance of nutrients.  It takes a lot of mental preparation to handle the changes that comes with surgery.  I'm so happy that all foods/liquids are digesting well...have had no problems in my first 12 days.

JAN 4, 2006
(206 lbs Post-op)
I've been stuck at 206-207 for a few days now.  I know stalls are normal and it will change soon.  It's so easy to get used to losing a pound everyday though!   Only problem I've had so far is one of my incisions became infected.  I went to Dr. Garth yesterday and I have to pack antibotic tape into the incision hole.  It's kinda gross.  No biggie though.

JAN 8th 2006
(203.5 lbs Post-op)
Well...I had my first problem with food today.  I don't think it was "dumping", it was more like bad heartburn.  I immediately chewed a tums and started drinking water.  My surgeon told me that I probably ate too quickly.

JAN 18, 2006
(200.5 lbs post-op)
I'm slowly losing weight, but I am losing inches.  I hit my low of 200 lbs, but then it bounces back up.  That EVIL scale.  It's frustrating when the scale goes back UP.  But I am proud of the 21.5 lbs I've lost in a month.  I'm down 26.5 from my highest weight.

MY ONE MONTH ANNIVERSARY
I'm 200 lbs this morning.  22 lbs gone forever!

JAN 30, 2006
(191.5 lbs post-op)
Today is my 6 week anniversary.  I'm down 30.5 lbs since my surgery on 12/19/05 and total of 35.5 lbs.  I feel so good.  I'm still not having any problems with foods.  I'm so grateful.

FEB 20th, 2006
(182.5 lbs post-op)
I can't believe it's already been 2 months!  Yesterday was my anniversary.  As of yesterday, I had lost 38 lbs since surgery, plus the 5 lbs the week before.  No problems to report.  I can eat anything, which I haven't taken advantage of too much.  I'm so careful of what I eat.
Sometimes, I'll have the need for chocolate, but I'll actually divide a small package of mm's into small amounts and make it last all week.  I sure couldn't have done that a few months ago!

Today, I'm another 1.5 lbs down.  So it's 39.5 for me now.  Here are my measurements, first taken 12/14/05 and taken today, 2/20/06:

Neck: 16.5"  NOW 14.5"

(179.5 lbs post op)
YEA...Finally in the 170's...even if only by a 1/2 lb!  This was a big goal for me, because 170 lbs. was the low that I hit 3 yrs ago and I wanted to see it again.  I feel so good!

March 19, 2006
171.5  (post-op)
Today's my 3 month anniversary.  I can't believe how quickly time has passed and that I'm already down 50.5 lbs since surgery day and a total of 55.5 lbs from the week before.  I feel wonderful!  I have no problems to report at all.  Everything I eat digests well.  It almost feels like I never even had surgery...other than I measure everything and count all my calories/fat/carbs and proteins.  My goal each day is 1000 calories, less than 30% fat, no more than 125 carbs and at least 70g of
protein.  This works very well for me.  I drink a lot of crystal light, decaf coffee and an occassional diet coke.  And I do enjoy a sweet treat once in awhile, but always include it in my calorie intake for the day.  My portion sizes are normal for a small person.  I don't eat tiny
amounts or child portions.  Mainly, I just don't binge or eat all day.
Here are my measurements, first taken 12/14/05 and the ones taken

April 25, 2006  (6 days after 4th month anniversary!!)
160 lbs  (post op)
I'm so excited!  I'm wearing 10's and 12's!!!  I can't believe they fit as I pull up my britches.  Just 4 1/2 months ago, I was wearing a size 20/2X.  I feel wonderful.  I have so much control and eat very healthy.
Trying to get a lot of protein...more than required, because my hair is coming out in pretty good amounts.  Such a small price to pay though!  Each day is a true blessing.  Therapy is going really well.  I don't see myself as fat anymore.  I can remember when I was in my early
20's...weighing about 120-125 and I thought I was just huge.  I starved myself to stay skinny, but it was never enough.

156 lbs  (post-op)
I'm having lab work in a few days to check things out.  I just can't believe I've lost 71 lbs! (from my high of 227...surgery was at 222 lbs)

May 19, 2006
152 lbs  (post-op)
Today is my 5 month anniversary!  I've lost 70 lbs.  (plus 5 lbs from the week before surgery)  I feel wonderful.  My labwork tests taken May 9th all came out in normal ranges...everything is just right.  My surgeon was thrilled with my weight loss results.  And I couldn't be more
grateful to him and my insurance co.  I have absolutely no problems eating.  I've never got sick...other than the heartburn feeling early on.  I don't count that though...it was not a big deal.  I input my food choices every single day in fitday.com.  I continue to keep my calories
between 1000 and 1100.  I get about 70-90g of protein a day.  But I pretty much eat anything I want.  High protein is the most important goal for post-op patients.  No foods bother me.  I enjoy treats, but the calorie/fat/carb intake is always counted.  WLS has been so easy for me.  I'm very lucky and I pray I'll continue to not have any problems.

JUNE 19, 2006
I weigh 146 lbs and it's my 6 month anniversary!!  I'm so thrilled to have reached this day.  I used to think...where will I be in 6 months after surgery?  Well...
1. I'm only 6 lbs from having a normal bmi
2. I feel so healthy, I'm so very happy
3. I live life to the fullest, I have fun with my girls, I have fun with my husband
4. I LOVE shopping!
5. I can wear a size 8 pant and medium shirt
6. I can curl up in a "little ball" while on the couch watching t.v.  My legs don't go to sleep anymore.
7.  I can do chores all day and by the end of the day, still feel
great.  My makeup doesn't come off, I don't sweat.
8.  I enjoy food and the variety I have, I never feel sick and my digestive system is great.  I have control of myself while eating
9.  Life is just easier
10.  I have less depression and rarely have mood swings.  And when I do, I'm stronger physically and mentally to seek help before I get sick.  Some of my meds have been lowered too.
11.  I sleep better
12.  I smile more
13.  I LOVE SHOPPING!!! ... oh, did I say that already? haha

19.  My husband calls me his lil peanut and sometimes I'm a "roasted peanut", because he thinks I'm so HOT!  And sometimes, I'm his hot n'spicy peanut.  haha
20.  I could go on and on...this list is endless.  I'm so grateful for WLS and I'm so proud of myself for taking the risk of having surgery.  My health is good and I'm very happy.  I praise God for guiding me through this journey and for keeping me safe.

I WORE MY NEW SWIMSUIT TODAY!!!
And I felt so good.  I've hardly swam in our pool in 3 yrs.  I had so much fun.

JULY 7, 2006
145 lbs
Went to Seaworld for vacation and had a blast!  Had so much fun playing in the water...not embarrassed at all of being in my bathing suit.  It was an incredible feeling of freedom.

JULY 15TH, 2006
142 lbs
I can hardly believe I'm only 2 lbs from being "normal".  It's been 14 yrs since I was below 140 lbs.  I feel so great!  I'm able to eat anything, but I still use fitday everyday to count my calories/fat/carbs/protein.  A normal stomach will strech up to 32 ounces - size of a football.  A post-op gastric bypass stomach can ultimately stretch to 8-10 ounces.  I find myself full between 4-5 ounces of food.  It's not about the quantity of food that I eat...it's about the weight of the food.  I can eat a huge salad...but only about 3-4 oz of meat.

LIFE IS SO GOOD!

JULY 23, 2006
142 lbs
I just had my 7th month anniversary on 7/19/06.  I'm still hanging on to 142 to 143 lbs.  It's my doing though...I've been eating much more.  But it's kinda good to know that I can maintain my weight, even when I'm increasing my calories quite a lot.  I want to get these last 12 lbs off though.  My goal used to be by 8 months (8/19), but now I just want to make goal by my 40th birthday, which is 10/13.  I know I can do that!
Here are my measurements from 12/14/05 and today:

Today is my 9 month anniversary!!  I'm 1.5 lb from goal and 4.5 lbs from saying I've lost 100 lbs total.  I've still had no problems...at all.  My calories are higher now, anywhere between 1200-1600....sometimes as high as 2000.  I eat like a normal person now...or what a normal" diet should be.  Food portions are so large these days.  Kevin and I share most meals or I enjoy left overs the next day.  I feel absolutely wonderful...physically, mentally, spirtually...you name it, I feel great.  My

Thank you Dr. Garth Davis.  You have changed my life.  You're a wonderful surgeon...professional and very kind.  Because of your expertise, I've had no problems...never once got sick.  Maybe some of it's luck...maybe some of it my will to make this work.  But most of it, I believe is
that you are an awesome dr.  You took care of me perfectly.  I've learned to eat normally...not emotionally.  I've learned about nutrition and how to eat healthy.  I've learned how to eat anything I wish, but in moderation.  I have changed from a size 20, weighing a high of 227 to now a size 4/6 and my weight is 132.  I'm off blood blood pressure medication.  I exercise now, take care of my skin and take pride in my dress.  I live life to the fullest.  I play.  I enjoy seeing people.  I work harder.  And I sleep better.  I'm a better wife and mother.  And I'm very
happy.  My life is forever changed because of you.  I tell everyone about you and brag how wonderful my dr. is.

Thank you again, Dr.Davis
