November 27, 2008- My story is like a lot I have read here. I was a chubby child. then, at about 9 yrs old I got really  chubby. Enough to be teased in school and to always be the last to be chosen for teams. other children can be very mean. I started diet pills at the age of 13. They were very popular in the 70's. So, of course I yo-yo'd with being on and off the pills. I started slimming down naturally at about 16. I then became pregnant, got married and moved away from my family. I gained over 100 lbs. during that pregnancy and never lost it. That child is now 33. I have been on so many diets over the years, I can't even remember. By the time I had my 2nd child (12yrs after the 1st) I had put on even more wt. After my 2nd child was born I quickly put on 50 more lbs. and now am 190 lbs over my ideal wt. I started thinking about WLS 2 yrs ago, but my husband, who is thin, was against it due to possible complications. I began having health problems that come with being overweight and one thing led to another. I ended up having a cardiac cath. That was negative. However, the cardiologist recommeded I have WLS and eventually my husband agreed. I have been through the 6 mo diet required by my insurance and last week received approval and a surgery date. Surgery is Dec. 29, 2008 (SINCE RESCHEDULED FOR 1/5/09). I am so excited and a little scared at the same time. I still have several pre-op tests to do, but a month is not a very long time. I have been reading on OH for a long time and have read a lot of good advice. I am expecting nothing but good results. I have confidence in my surgeon, but more importantly, I have faith in the Lord. He has His hand upon me and will see me through.
