Hi, I am from Canada and I was looking into all the stories. I think it is great!!! I don't think I will be able to do this for me though. Here in New Brunswick our medicare doesn't cover it and neither does my work insurance. It actually specifically says it won't cover gastic bypasses. :( I would never be able to afford it on my own :( Kind of depressing!!!! All the stories of everyone here are just great though and I wish you all the best of luck!!!!

I have gotten a few emails from people in New Brunswick who have had surgery. They both have given me great information already and I hope to get more help from them as well. Thanks MJ and Cheyanne!

Everything is still about the same. I have tried to make and appointment with my Family Dr. But since I have hypothyroidsim the receptionist said I need to have a blood test before the Dr will see me....I think that is alittle odd! But anyways...so she made a blood test appointment for November and that was in July.

My fiance went to see his Dr the other day and I asked him to ask him what he thought of WLS. He said that it was too drastic and that it would be hard to get it done living in New Brunswick. He said that since I wasn't dying that I should try other ways to lose weight.

I hope that my Dr. sees things alittle differently. I think he should since he knows all my medical history. We will see.

I have been researching and researching and I think that the DS surgery would be the best for me. Even though that would be the hardest to get done here for sure.

I wish the waits weren't so long in Canada....and even if I can get things covered here my medicare.....I am sure they won't let me go to the States for surgery.

That is all for now! Hope everyone is doing great!

Well alot has happened. Medicare does pay for it now. I have been talking with two people who have had it done here in New Brunswick. They are very helpful and so great. Ann and Angie.

My family Dr did refer me to the Dr in Moncton who does the surgery. I had heard anything for a year and 4 months so I thought I would call. Called today and I have an appointment for April 27th. Should be exciting. Kinda nerve wracking though.

We will see what he has to say.

This has been a difficult year for my family so any talk of this surgery would likely be too difficult for anyone to hear about so I haven't told anyone except my fiance about it. This year we have seen my sister pass from Cancer suddenly, everything happened in a week. Went from healthy and cancer free for two years to cancer everywhere in less then a week. It was very sad and too hard. It is still hard. That was at Christmas time. Then my mother in law to be was diagnosed with cancer. So she went through surgery and is in the middle of very strong chemo. And at the very same time as my sister and my future mother in law were diagnosed with cancer my Uncle was diagnosed with brain tumor. he just recently passed about a week ago. So you can see my family doesn't need anything else to worry about for a while.

I will write after I have had the appointment with the surgeon.

I had the appointment with the surgeon. It went well. He said that I need to have the surgery done. Said that withouth it the statistics say that I won't live to be past 60. I did actually take my mom with me after all. My fiance convinced me that I should tell my parents about it. So mom went in with me and asked a few qeustions as well. She asked if it was a medical necessity. The Dr said that it was definitely!

So now I called the family Dr to have a referral to the Internist in Saint John. Have a letter from him and a letter from my family Dr to go to medicare and wait for the letter from Medicare. After I get approval letter from medicare I call the surgeons office and they will set a date.

The Surgeon said it would likely all be done in less then 6 months. That I have done all the waiting that I need to do already.

The Dr was really nice. Was there to answer any questions you had for as long as you wanted. It was a long wait to get in to see him. I had the appointment for 2:30. Got there alittle early, saw the nurse for 30 mins then back to the waiting room to wait to see the Dr. That was another 2 and a bit hours. So alittle after 5 I got in to see the Dr.

Well now we wait again to hear when the next appointment in Saint John with the internist will be.
