Hello!  I had my surgery in June and have learned so much from the boards here!  I did all I could do to read and research to make sure I was making a good decision and I feel so grateful that this is here to help and be a sounding board for those who need it.
I was never skinny as a kid, but not huge, either. I hovered between a 12 and 14 for most of my young adult life. In my twenties I started to gain, despite all kinds of efforts on my part. I also had weird illnesses and was not well.
After seeing many doctors and getting B12 shots (twice) and being told I was tired because I had kids and worked, I was finally diagnosed with a thyroid disease. I had fluid around my heart, hair falling out, aches and pains, memory problems, etc.
While the meds. eventually leveled off the thyroid, I never felt like I was back to "normal". Weight loss was a joke. I did Weight Watchers, and would lose a 1/2 a pound a week, maybe.
I became diabetic, needed to eventually do inuslin, 5 shots a day, plus three other meds. I did a vegan diet for 7 months with not much luck. I was at my wits end with trying but scared to let the diabetes go without serious measures.
That is how I landed here!
I have done well so far, and have lost 59 since surgery, plus another 8 before. I would never have dreamed to lose so much knowing my history. I am also off ALL of my diabetes meds!  I have a follow up appointment in November, but my doctor is thrilled.
I would do this again in a heartbeat as I am sure it is buying me years of healthier living!
