Lap Band to RNY Revision
Jun 02, 2010
I have had some knee problems and comments from my doctor were if I lost more weight it would not be hard on my knees. Thats what I have been trying to do. I was also told that I have high cholesterol so bring on the pills. In March I decided that its time to do something and have a revision. I went to see my dr and he felt I was a good candidate for RNY.
I completed preop paperwork and testing which included an unfill in my Lap Band from March to April and received my approval in May. Surgery is now scheduled for June 15 @ 10:30 am at St Lukes Hospital in Tempe.
Currently, I am on my pre-op diet. This is day 2 and it has not been that bad. It's funny but you dont realize how many food commercials are on tv until you cant eat.
I am excited and I am ready to start my new journey.
June 14, 2008 Post Surgery
Jun 14, 2008
I had surgery yesterday Friday, June 13 at 9:30 AM at Arizona Specialty Hospital. I was told that I would be spending the night so I was prepared to make the best of it although I had heard that many Lap Band patients went home the same day.
My husband could not get the time off because of his work requirements so my wonderful daughter took me. At first, she was not happy but she made it a fun experience. She had me laughing before the surgery which made things much easier for me. My husband showed up before I came out.
I got to the hospital at 7:30 and did some last minute paperwork. I was then in the pre-op room by 8:00 and got my IV and pre-surgery shots. Also, received some antibiotics through IV.
I went into surgery late because the doctor was running late. I remember being wheeled in the operating room, climbing onto the surgery table, breathing into the oxygen mask and that's it. I was waking up in recovery soon after.
I was given a bottle of water to sip and moved into my room. I talked to my nurse and slept for about 15 minutes. When I woke up I decided to go for a walk. My nurse came in after and asked if I was nauseous and I told her no. She said not vomitting or nausea and you are up walking; I think you will be going home today about 5pm. She left, came back and confirmed I woud be released at 4:00pm. I left the hospital closer to 5pm. The drive home was not fun solely because it was rush hour and the traffic made me nervous.
I made it home, ate a little chicken broth. It was so good; felt like I was eating like a king. Walked around the house a little and just enjoyed my evening.
The night was a little difficult because I like sleeping on my stomach. I had recently bought a memory foam contour pillow from Target and put it on my side to lay on and it did wonders. I am so happy I had it to sleep on.
Today, I have a party I have to attend. I am not up to going only because I want to rest more but for no reason whatsoever can I not go. I don't feel sick just lazy!

June 3, 2008 Pre-op Appointment

Pre-op appointment went very well. I can't believe it is really happening. It feels like a dream! I scheduled my post-op appointment and 3 post-op fills.
Pre-op Diet
The first 3 days of the pre-op diet were hell for me. I was so hungry; I was not sure I would make it. It has definitely gotten easier. I am not as hungry as the first days but sometimes crave foods. I am not sure if it is because of habit or because my body truly craves it. Either way, looking forward to my health!

Throughout May, True Results was waiting for the doctor to send my 5 year weight history to them. I also found out that BCBS had new requirements and I had to complete H-pylori and drug/alcohol tests.
May 22 True Results had all information and was gathering it to submit to the insurance company for Lap Band authorization.
May 23 True Results submitted paperwork to BCBS. Keeping my fingers crossed!
