My update...sorry it took so long!

Feb 14, 2009

Well, where do I begin???

I got to the hospital at 9 and went to the short term stay unit. I was brought in to get ready within 5 minutes. I had to answer lots of questions and they started an IV and I also took some medications. My surgery was scheduled for 10:30 and they brought me in at 10:30. The last thing I remembered was the anesthesiologist telling me he was giving me a margarita...lol and then I woke up in recovery in pain amd my husband was sitting in there with me. The nurse gave me some morphine. Then I was brought up to the floor it was a private room which was nice. I slept alot while in the hospital.

The first day I dont really remember...I think I slept the remainder of the day/night. I had a pca so when I did wake up in pain I hit the button. I do remember that night around 11 the nurse asked if I wanted to get up and walk. I said sure and got to the doorway and started dry heaving....not fun so went back to bed and was fine.

The second day I was brought down to have my upper gi around 830am...I was soooo thirsty. I finally got the results at 2:30 that I could have water....it was so nice! I walked as much as I could which went well. That evening I was up to stage 2 woo hoo!!!

The third day was good and I was still in pain. I walked alot and did stairs today...which didnt hurt at all which was great since I have many in my house. Dr Paciulli came in the morning and said that I could most likely go home that night...woo hoo was I excited! I was wanting to go home badly....not that there was anything wrong at the hospital but, theres no place like home! I did pretty good that day and then around 6pm Dr Paciulli came in and took out my JP drain which did not hurt at all but, it was a strange sensation...but, no pain....and then said I could go home.....YAY!!! My family took me home and am I glad I brought a pillow with me for the bumps! I live an hour away so we tried to get home before the pharmacy closed. I did have to go to 4 pharmacys for the pain medicine....one said well I can have it in 4 days....hahaha I dont think so...I was in pain. So, finally I was home!

On Monday after I got home (I came home on Friday night from the hospital) Nancy called to check on me. I told her I was feeling ok except for the pain in my left side. Nancy said that it usually hurts most in that incision since it is the largest and they use more equipment in that area. I felt like I shouldnt still be taking the pain medicine every 4 hours. The pain was horrible.....but, then Wednesday night I went to take a shower and the area had a pink square area around the incision site. I called Nancy on Thursday morning and she said that Dr Paciulli wanted to see me. I went in and was really nervous that it was an abscess and sure enough thats what it was! So, Dr Paciulli opened up the incision site and drained it and packed it. I am now having it changed 2 times per day and I feel so much better! I now know that all that pain was from the abscess. I have lost a total of 32 lbs since the beginning of December (12 since surgery).

I am so happy that I have had this surgery and would do it all over again!

I cant believe it only 2 more days!

Feb 01, 2009

Ok, well here I am sitting at my desk at work....probably shouldnt be on here but, my mind is not at work ...thats for sure! I cant believe I will be on the losers bench in 2 days.  I start my liquid diet tomorrow....that should be fun! I am glad that it is only for the day prior to surgery and not like some others that I have heard with the 2 week liquid diet so I am not going to complain about that. I am so excited still I havent really had any nervous feelings about it yet. I am sure that will hit once I get to the hospital. Well, I should get back to work and get some stuff done since I will be out for 4-6 weeks.

Times flying by...

Jan 31, 2009

Well, yesterday I spent the day at PRH and I did all the pre op meetings with anesthesia, respiratory, had my blood work, met with Nancy again and then went to meet with Dr Paciulli again...this time with my husband. I am 4lbs under what I needed to get to so I am psyched....I of course want to keep trying for more prior to surgery but, I only have 4 days until surgery. I cant believe that it has happened so quickly. I was figuring the end of February beginning of March so I am psyched. I am going to go out to finish getting my supplies today. I still need protein and a measuring tape so I can take my measurements...not that I really want to do that lol but, it is important to see where you began. I also found out my vitamin D was low only 10 and they want it around 32 so I have to fill my prescription for that as well. Well, thats all for today.

Ok, so on Monday around 1:30 I received a call from Dr Paciullis office. I was sooooo excited just hearing them say who they were ....lol I was told that they had received my approval and that they had a tenative surgery date for me.....they said next Wednesday....like 2/04. I was very shocked since it is so close . they need to check to make sure there will be another surgeon to assist. I will find out today but, I just cant belive it went this quick....pinch me....lol I am going in on Friday for my pre op visit and also to meet with the surgeon again with my husband. So, hopefully by the afternoon I will know for sure if it is a go....

I am on my way!!!

Jan 23, 2009

Well, I spoke with my insurance company today and they said I am approved!!! YAY!!! I am so excited! I was at work when I called but, I wanted to run around and do a dance and scream...lol So, I called Dr Paciulli's office and they havent received the approval yet so I will have to wait until they receive it and they will call me.... ok, I am feeling very impatient and I am not usually like this but, I want to know a date. I am hoping that they call me on Monday with some news. I think I will call Nancy on Monday as well to see if I can attend the pre op meeting this month so that I could potentially have surgery in February if they have any dates. I have the support group meeting also on Monday. Well, thats all for today I guess.
