My story is pretty boring. I wanted to have surgery 2-3 years ago and I would talk to people about it and the gastric bypass and the whole re-routing of parts really scared me. A few friends had the lap band and I was constantly asking questions and really thought that was going to be the route I was going to go. I have Kaiser and they require you to do some things before they will allow you to have surgery and in July 2011 I attended another (because I chickened out before) Kaiser Bariatric Seminar to get the ball rolling. Well it was at that meeting that I really learned about the Sleeve procedure and my mind was made up and my journey began........
I have been over weight my whole life, but I have been fortunate. I guess it is my sense of humor that saved me. I can count on one hand (maybe 2 or 3) the times I got truly upset over comments or remarks that someone made about me being overweight. I made it out of which could have been some of the most traumitizing times of my life "childhood"......Happy!! I guess my sparkling personality shined through! LOL
Fast forward to 2011. I am married and have a son, who are both "skinny". In the years leading up to the surgery I noticed I began to feel tired all the time and had no energy. I am sure do in part to the fact that 40 is creeping up on me. After the seminar I kicked into gear and started working on my 25lb loss requirement. I did all the blood work, saw the psychologist and the nutrionist. I met my goal in October and could have had surgery in November, but I decided I would enjoy the holidays (in moderation) and start fresh in January. I actually lost 8 more pounds over the holidays. GO ME!
As I write this May 23,2012 which is 4 months after my surgery. I had surgery on January 17, 2012 and have lost 53.2 since surgery and 85.5 since my actual journey began. I have gone from a 26/28 (just about to go into a 30/32) to an 18/20. I look at myself and I notice it a little, but where I really notice is in my clothes. I have lost close to 40 inches all over. I do feel more energetic and rarely get that 3pm slump I used to get. My sister has decided to have the surgery as well. In fact yesturday was our first training day in the C25K. My goal is to cross Tri-atholon off of my bucket list!
