"IT'S NEVER TOO LATE TO BECOME WHO YOU COULD HAVE BEEN "

( AND I HOPE TO BE ! )

Well,  I am 61,  married to the same hard working fellow for 43 years, lived in my present home for 33 years, same town for 43 years.  Mother of 6 good kids, 2 boys and 4 girls.  Two close to home and still single,  the rest married with nice families, and kids of their own.  We are grandma and grandpa to 9 grandchildren,  some grown, some toddlers, but all sweet and wonderful.  Lots of boys in the bunch but only one little girl, we love them all.

I have been  overweight since I was 10 years old, not too big  when we married, but grew each time a baby came, and never slimmed down.  I have fooled with as many different diets as you can think of,  never been more successful than 20-30 lbs,  just couldn't hold on and stay focused and of course, always gained it back.

Now I have arthritis,  high blood pressure,  always tired, and don't get around well anymore.  Most projects are just too difficult for me to handle, so I sit a lot.

But good things do come to those that try to keep busy, and for many decades I have kept busy doing family history research.  I also love to read, I have a room full of books, and it's the only money I don't mind spending,  other money spent is just for crummy old 'necessities' like bills.

I hope to have the bypass surgery sooner rather than later.  The Docs office says my insurance will cover it and the hospital.  So the rest is up to me, to stay focused and hang in till it happens, then hang in some more. My first group consultation with Dr. Ludwig is in a few days,  primary care doc appointment for his okay in also in a few days,  got my psych evaluation yesterday, and my first support group meeting is next week, where my husband says he'll come along,  brave soul.

I think I can do this, and do it right, or else I wouldn't be going for it. I hope to hear  from others who are post op or pre op,  both far and near.  My dialogue is 'when' and not 'if'. it's been  a long time  coming up until this point, and I'm feeling pretty good about it.

Anyone who wants to toss a few tips my way,  please do,  I would love to hear them, and meet you..........Lynn Lowrie
