How to handle excessive thirst???

Prior to surgery, I guzzled a bottle of diet green tea frequently to quench my thirst... Now, I can only sip slowly and just 2 ounces at the time. This is very difficult, as I feel I can't satisfy my thirst. (Have controlled diabetes... Does this perhaps attribute to the thirst?) Any suggestions of how to deal with this please?
