Surgery is done!!

Apr 05, 2013

So I had my surgery on Monday, April 1st.  Seemed like it was soo far away and now it is done!  I really didn't get nervous until I was actually IN the operating room so I'm a bit slow on the uptake! lol  I don't even remember them starting to put me out or anything.

When I did "wake up"  (although I never actually saw the recovery room) I remember begging for something in my mouth.  It was so dry I felt I couldn't breath.  They had to remind me to breath through my nose!  They gave me oxygen for quite awhile.  For pain they were giving me morphine(I guess thats what I finally figured out) and It knocked me out but didn't seem to help the pain.  I had such a pain in the left side of my breast/chest!  It was also making me nauseas/light headed.  But nobody realized that is what the problem was until the LOVELY night time nurse that I cannot remember her name but SHE WAS AWESOME!!  She asked me if I wanted to try something else for pain because just maybe the med might be making me sick and 4 hours later I awoke and no chest pain!!!!  It was great!  Yes it still came back and I wasn't able to do cartwheels or anything but I was so happy for the relief!  I opted to stay the extra day (I was worried about pain meds and wanted a trial run on what they would be sending me home on before I left.  They sent me home with lortab.  Not my fav either.  Infact I took it the night I came home and not since so it was really a waste of $  I think it does help but it gives me wierd dreams so I'd rather have nothing.

The day I came home I did a short walk with my hubby and then yesterday and today a 1mi walk with them.  So not much but something at least.  Yesterday I only got about 100 calories in and prbly 15 protein g so I'm not up on that yet I also only made about 5 cups of water.  I did have one retching episode when I was trying to use this chicken broth flavored protein powder the smell got me!  I dumped it immediatly and just had some regular tomato soup.  Which was good.

Today has been yogert for breakfast and malt o meal for lunch and I have added in my calcium today!  Maybe later my multivitamin... we will see!

I am happy looking back on this side of the sugeryr.  I had some moments (that I kept to myself) that I was like "What did I do!??"  Now that I'm on day 5 I am again pleased with this decision.
