It's my surgiversary

Jul 07, 2009

It's strange that I've waited so long to write in this blog, but this feels like a milestone worth a little reflection.  One year ago today, I had surgery.  I still remember waking up in recovery and thinking "Wait, I've changed my mind".  Recovery was a breeze, and from the start I had a cast iron pouch.  I did have a few episodes with the foamies, one habit I haven't been able to lick is gulping down my food.  So a year later, what's different:

I lost almost 80 lbs.
I went from a BMI category of morbidly obese to overweight.
Diabetes is in remission (I don't consider myself cured)
Lipid panel is now in the normal level (from off the charts triglycerides).
From a size 24/2X to 10 or 12/L.
I can run for 20 minutes at a time, and have completed 3 5K races!
I can leg press more than my body weight.
I can not only fit into my husband's pants, but I can get them on without buttoning them!

What hasn't changed:
My appetite.  I still want to eat all the time.
My obsession with food and the desire to stress eat.
My love of sweets.
My love of cooking.
My low self esteem.

What I'd like to accomplish in the next year:
Gain a tighter control of my eating habits
Become even stronger and fitter (would like to run an entire 5K)
Have plastic surgery on all this loose skin.
Get into a size 8/M
Try not to stretch my stoma any further.
