11-6-03 Awaiting schedule date! I was finally approved by Cigna after starting all over! I could write a book on the trouble with that horrible company!

5-20-03 Dr. Ritter did an EGD yesterday to go in and see what is going on with my 20 year old gastric stapling. He wouldn't put me out for this procedure, annast.said that I was at a high risk due to sleep apnea...let me tell ya', I now know what it would be like to be strangled to death! The scope revealed that the staples didn't hold, through no fault of mine, they are no longer intact. He said that he will send this, with a reccomendation to go back and repair. and do the bypass. We will know in another 30 days.

Today is 5/5/03. After sitting in an appeal with conference call consisting of one Medical Director, Specialty:Pediatric Medicine, A provider Relations rep., and a member/enrollee, and two R.N.'s that were non-voting. It seems to me that they really didn't lister...they didn't ask anything about the three new pieces of evidence that I brought.(.which was the reason for the denial), instead, he commented on the fact that Weight watchers was working...yes, I lost 10 pounds in the first two weeks. Then, an additional 13 pounds in the following 4 months. At that rate, I will hit my goal in 8 years...just what I wanted..nothing else has worked, and they expect me to stay on a diet, remain enthusiastic, and be excited that I can l can loose 3 pounds a month...eating less than 1500 calories a day...with my enormous appitite? How unrealistic can they be? I really do not know what I am going to do

4/15/03 Cigna sent a letter offering my input for second denial hearing. They invited me to appear, or did I want them to handle it?...da', they are the ones that have screwed me thus far! The appeal is set for April 30th. Wish me luck, I am going in, loaded for bear. I think that I have everything that they have asked for..will keep you posted.

Feb. 3, 2003....Very discouraged! Even after pre-approval, Cigna turned me down because they needed documented, weekly weigh-ins for a 12 week period. I have made numerous visits for various ailments to my PCP, but didn't document weight loss plan. I joined weight watchers to meet this criteria...if WW was the answer, I wouldn't need the surgery...what is wrong with these idiots???

I just wanted to inform anyone interested that I waited almost 3 months for an appointment with Dr Joseph Cribbins in Plano. After going through orientation, and a brief visit, he said that he wouldn't do a "re-do" I had gastric stapling 19 years ago, and he wouldn't take the risk of the unknown. My previous surgery records were no longer available, so he jsut said no. That day, I called Dr. David Ritter's office and got an appointment for the following week! After my visit w/ Dr. Ritter, he said that it is a go. I am very frustrated because 9 days later, he still has not dictated the letter to be typed for the insurance co! I've waited this long, I will try to be patient.
