One Month Post Op

May 22, 2008

Tomorrow makes one moth Post op. I have an appointment to check up on my progress. I am excited and I really can't see a difference but my clothes tell me otherwise. I am now able to fit into my favorite pairs of black jeans that I've stored away. I only have about 30 of them! LOL! I am excited.....I am having a hard time keeping any meat down. No matter what kind of meat it is. I am doing well with soups and vegetables. I have to remind myself to eat though. I don't ever feel hungry so I have to schedule and pace my meal. I miss being able to drink a lot of water at once. I have to remind myself to sip and to stick to no more than 3 ounces.... Ironically, I am the largest person on the campus I work at BUT......I have the smallest stomach!! No one would ever believe that now would they! LOL! I haven't told people about my surgery. I only told my boss. It's a personal journey......Wish me luck for tomorrow! I'll keep you all posted. Thanks for all of your support ladies!

Mele

I did it!

Apr 25, 2008

I finally did it! It's over! My surgery went well two days ago. The surgery lasted for an hour and a half. I didn't remember a thing. I didn't feel anything either when I woke up. I asked for pain medicine on the second day due to a little discomfort. Other than having my mouth feel as though it was as dry as cotton, I had a good experience. I highly recommend that anyone about to undergo WLS take along some Chapstick. It does wonders to soothe your mouth. I am so grateful to everyone who supported me throughout my journey. Keisha, Denise, Karen, Bre, and Debra, thank you for always reassuring me that everything was going to be alright. If anyone wants to know about great protein drink recipes, just ask Denise. She has some great tasting ideas! If there is anything anyone wants to know about my surgery or physician, please don't hesitate to ask me. Since Keisha and Denise told me specific details that I really wanted to know, I felt more comfortable and relaxed about the whole situation. So please, go ahead and ask me!

The BIG day!!!

Apr 22, 2008

Tomorrow is the BIG day!!!! I can't believe it!!! I am at home forcing myself to drink this horrible colate drink that is nasty tasting but I keep telling myself that it'll all be worth it in the long run and that I need to get my system cleaned.....So, I guess you could say that I am psyching myself out!! My first cousin just came out of her bypass surgery and she is doing well. I just found out from my Aunt that my bed is right next to hers!!!! I am so happy for her and that she finished her surgery with no problems! I am even more excited now! I can't wait to join all of you on the losing weight side of things.
Keep me close to your heart and in your prayers. Thank you for all your support!

Aloha,
Mele

Tentative Date

Mar 31, 2008

Today I had an appointment with the personal trainer Cindy at the Castle Medical Center. She was very thorough and thoughtful. Upon waiting to get into see Cindy, the care coordinator Jennifer came by and gave me a tentative surgery date!!! OMG!!!! I did not expect that!!!!  So, APRIL 23RD is the tentative date and the scheduled time is 8:30 am. Talk about anxiety........

Another Hurdle

Mar 28, 2008

Today, I met with Psychologist, Dr. Lovette. She was really nice and pleasant. We went over a lot of things and she answered a lot of my questions. Because of my nervousness about the surgery, I will meet with her again before my surgery to do an activity that will help me reduce the stress and anxiety. I was told that my surgery will be scheduled in the end of April. OMG! I am so excited by yet scared at the same time. I know this is something I have to do. The thing that makes me afraid is not knowing how things are prepped and what it will be like when I start to wake up. If there is anyone out there who can shared their experience with me? I would really appreciate it. I have another appointment on Monday the 31st then another on the 18th. Then......surgery date!!!! LOL! Please keep me in your prayers....
Aloha,
Mele

Anxiously Waiting....

Mar 24, 2008

I have four more appointments left before the medical team convenes to make the final decision. I am so excited. I just have to meet with a personal trainer twice and the dietitian once more, and the psychologist. My tests are all complete and now its just a waiting game. When I started this journey, I weighed 358#. I've since lost 8# by eating the foods I'll have to eat in my last stage after surgery. It's only been one week. I've started on the vitamin ritual as well and have sustained from eating rice, bread, and anything that has more than 2 grams of sugar in it. I hope to lose at least 30# before my surgery to lesson the chances of any complications. I am anxiously waiting......

Melez Journey

Mar 22, 2008

Aloha everyone! My name is Mele and hopefully, I will be able to embark on a life altering experience. I recently inquired about bariatric surgery at Castle Medical Center in Kailua and decided that it was time. I've been overweight my entire life and my battle with obesity has worn me down. I've just completed the first round of visits with various health professions and completed several tests that will determine whether or not I am physically fit to undergo the surgery. I am thrilled and looking forward to being approved. I want to lose weight in the worst way. The results I've seen in family members and friends are amazing. I hope amaze myself as well. Thanks for stopping by. Aloha!
