one week and two days after surgery

Oct 08, 2009

Hey everyone sorry it took me so long to post.  I had my RNY surgery on Sept the 29th and everything went GREAT!!!!  I wasn't able to get up and walk until the next morning because it was so late in the afternoon they told me that they wanted me to rest.
So I rested and the next day when I got up I was very sore but I walked anyway.  They told me the more I walked the better I would feel.  The physical therapist told me I was doing very well he brought a walker for me to walk with and I told him I didn't need that thing.  He got a kick out of that!!  Everyone at the hospital was super nice and took care of me very well.  Two of my nurses had had the lap-band surgery so they visited with me and told me about some of their experiences.  It was all in all a very good experience at the hospital.  The worst thing was the test the next morning when I had to drink that barium (that was nasty) they had me drink so many drinks that I thought my new tiny stomach  was going to explode.  I did get sick after that but I only gagged and that hurt but nothing came up thank God!  Anyway so I got to leave the hospital on Thursday and my surgery was on Tuesday so I had no problems and everything went as planned.  The ride home was horrible!!!  They had given me pain meds at the hospital at 2pm and I left right before 6pm so I had to make the drive home with no pain meds. OUCH!!!
when we got home to the walmart to get my meds it took them 50 min to get my meds ready which was a load of crap because my nurse at the hopital faxed it to them so it would be ready.  Anyway enough about that, since I have been home every day gets better than the last. The only thing that is hard is getting down all 48 ozs of my fluid but I make my self do it because I know it has to be done.  I did make one discovery I was very sleepy and a little dizzy or light headed so I called my dietician at Dr. Rivas' office and told her that my slim fast was nausiating my stomach and she said it is very common for people after the surgery to became lactose intollerant so I went to GNC and found me some non dairy protein drinks.  Not the best tasting in the world but I am feeling good now.  The dietician also told me that I am not only supposed to drink 3 cups of protein but it has to be 60 grams of protein that is what is important.  That will keep me from getting light headed and sleepy and also keep me from loosing my hair.
So I stepped on the scale today and I am down to 257.5 I think that is really close to 20 lbs.in one week and two days WOW!! I feel GREAT and my wedding ring is starting to get loose so I can tell some difference but I feel good that is the best thing.
My post op visit is scheduled for OCT 13th @ 2pm I will post back then and update again.
Thanks everyone for all the encouraging words before my surgery and I hope everyone else luck with their upcoming surgeries.
I can't wait until next week I am craving broccoli and chicken!!!lol

Hey all you guys thanks for the encouragement! I went to see Dr. Rivas today and everything went very GREAT!!!  He is so funny it is really nice to have a Dr. that will laugh with you.  He told me not to worry about anything and answered all my questions that I had. My surgery is for 11:00 and I have to arrive at St. Pauls Hospital at 9:00.  I have lost 14 lbs. as of today when they weighed me at my Dr. visit. I will post again soon as I feel up to it.

one week till surgery

Sep 22, 2009

So today is my first day to explore around obesity help and it is very helpful. I love reading all of these people's success stories.  I am Amanda Foster and I am 32 years old, the wife of a wonderful man, and the mother of two beautiful girls!

I have been struggling with my weight for around 10 years now.  I have read and asked many questions about WLS and I do feel it is the best answer for me.  I have been on many diets loosing as much as 86 lbs on my last diet, but it always comes back with avengance.  I met with my Dr. on August 31, 2009 and he thinks I will be a great candidate for RNY. I am lucky that my husband has great insurance and they pay 100% of the Dr and Anethesiologist and 80% of the hospital.

I got my surgery date and it is on Sept. 29, 2009, I have to go in on the 28th for lab and all that stuff.

I am a little scared and a lot nervous and anxious.  My only fear is if something was to happen to me, where would that leave my girls and my hunband? Devastated I know but I have faith that GOD will take care of me and guide Dr Rivas to do his job to the best of his ability.  I know after my surgery I will be a much better Mom and Wife.

I went on my liquid diet on the 15th of Sept. my plan says to have liquid for breakfast and lunch, then 3-5 ozs protein with vegetables for supper.  So far so good as of today I have lost 11.5 lbs and I am hoping to be down 20 by next week.If i dont post again before my surgery I will post soon after I arive back home.
