2 Weeks Post Op

Nov 06, 2006

Today is my first day back at work.  I was getting tired of hanging around the house. Today is also my first day of some REAL food.  Cottage Cheese for breakfast, string cheese for lunch and ground turkey for dinner. So far the cottage cheese and the string cheese were great and no problems .  I also started the protein shakes as a supplement yesterday.  I tried the Designer Whey brand before surgery with milk and they were fine, but now after surgery, they dont seem to agree with me.  I bought some of the Jay Robb brand and made it with water and it was very tasty, and no stomach pains as with the Designer Whey.  Maybe it was the milk?  But I think I will stick with the Jay Robb for now.  I am also going to try the premixed Worldwide Pure Protein Shake in a can.  35 grm of Protein and only 2grms of carbs.  This might be a little easier to take at work.
I am feeling great!  No problems so far, knock on wood.  I have lost 30 lbs as of this morning (2wks post op).  Saw my doctors last Wednesday.  My Glucose is now down to 105 from a high of 138, and my blood pressure is back down as well.  It's been a little hard trying to drink all the water but I think now that I am back at work, it will be a little easier .  Went to the San Diego Symphony last Saturday night and had dinner out at the Sheraton Hotel, just upstairs from the symphony.  They had chicken noodle soup, so I had just the broth.  A little salty but nice to have a dinner out.  And they didnt even charge me!  Well thats it for now, I will try to give more updates later in the week.

2 DAYS POST OP..

Oct 26, 2006

So, its day 2 after surgery. Yes, I am online making a post! I actually got to come home from the hospital yesterday, the day after surgery. Well im sure thats not the norm, so dont push it everyone. Everything went great. The hospital, Sharp Memorial in San Diego was great, especially all the nurses, The surgeon, anesthiologist and the rest of the team, and anyone else I am missing. My brother who had the surgery done a year ago was jealous because I was doing so well especially compared to the way he felt immediately after surgery. The hospital gave me a stuffed MOOSE to hold against me to help the pain when I walked. I was up and walking 4 hours after I got to my room. I felt SO MUCH better after the walk. It enabled me to belch (for those of you.. BURP).. which really was great!. So, water and Propel for today and then on to sugar free Popsicals and home made chicken soup ( ok, just the strained broth) for tomorrow. All I can say is if you are reading this pre surgery dated, then just be focused!! If you want it and you are prepared, you can do anything and being focused helped alot. I wrote a comment under product reviews on the ON-Q Pain Buster. Take a look a that. It made all the difference!

Tomorrow is the big day!

Well, the day will start EARLY!
I have to be at the hospital at 5:30am..
Surgery starts around 8am.
Everyone asks if Im ready, and if Im nervous.
Im only nervous about making it through the surgery and
wakeing up in the recovery room.  After that Ill be fine.
Im excited to get to work on my NEW ME...
It will be  a huge change but Im ready.
The interesting part will be in a few months when I have lost a TON of weight and look different.  After all, my teenage kids have only known me this way.  It will be a shock for them.  My son lives away from home at college so I think he will be the most surprised between visits since he wont see the slight differences from day to day and week to week.
I know that getting the weight off is one thing, but keeping it off is another.
But, one step at a time.
The next update will come in a few days when I get home.
As some of you have said in the chat room, wish me congratulations.. not luck.. There is no luck involved here.  Just hard work on my new life.
