So, it's been a long time since I posted

Oct 19, 2009

OK, it's been months.  I am hovering between 205 and 210, and it kills me at times that I cannot kick it into gear any more.  But in reality, I feel great.  A couple weeks ago I completed the Seacoast Century bike ride in MA, NH and ME.  100 miles on a bike (that's where my avitar pic came from).  I have done the ride before, but this was the fastest I have ever been.  Having a sexy new sub 17 pound carbon fiber bike didn't hurt either! That was my gift to myself for achieving my weight loss.

Is is scary though how the eating habits creep back.  I hope that 5 years from now I am still happy with my choice.  Right now, I would do it again in a moment, but I do need to commit to making last changes to my behavior.  The honeymoon phase is over for me, and I still struggle to eat properly.  But my health is great, my back doesn't hurt anymore, I am medication free, and my doctor can't believe my BP is 117/70, without meds!

Oh well, that's a brief update for today.  Maybe another one in six more months!

Really feeling great

Jan 17, 2009

I'm down to 238.5 this morning.  The stalli is definitely over.  I am amazed at how much more energy I have these days.  I started sppinning again this past week, and it felt great (well, except for my butt, that was not happy about being back on a bikeseat for the first time in 5 months!)

This has been the most amazing and rapid transformatioin of my life.  Many people are startingto notice, including people who only know mw very casually, like the the clerks at Starbucks and coworkers that I don't see every day.

It is amazing t me though how the psychological aspect of this disease still rears it's ugly head.  Unfortunately, dumping does not seem to be an issue for me, and as a result, I can eat things I shouldn't, like the occasional cookie or bite of chocolate.  It is miniscule quanities, but I wish I could stop myself from wanting it at all.

Milestones

Jan 04, 2009

Well, today I fell below 250 for the first time in 7 years!  What a feeling!  The stall I was experiencing seems to have passed, so hopefully things will start moving in the right direction again.

The beginning story

Dec 29, 2008

October 1st, 2008:  I finally got my approval!  I got an email from the HR person I have been working with, and she was able to get United Healthcare to approve my request.

December 4th, 2008:  Surgery was 4 days ago.  I came home last night, and for the most part, I feel OK.  I'm still pretty tender when I stand up, and a little foggy from the pain meds, but each day is getting better.  The staff at Middlesex was phenomenal.  I don't have a lot of personal experience with hospitals, but I have been witness to some less than great care.  Not the case at all here.  From the woman who checked me in and got me registered, to all the nurses and techs, everyone was great.  I'm looking forward to my new life and hte adventures it will bring!

December 18th, 2008:  I had my two week checkup yesterday with Dr. Aranow.  Things are going very well.  I feel great, I'm down almost thirty pounds since surgery, and I'm off the liquid diet!  He cleared me to return to work on Monday.  It was so nice to eat semi real food yesterday.  I had a scrambled egg for lunch, and a little shredded chicken for dinner.

Stalls Suck!!

Dec 29, 2008

So, it's 4 weeks today, and I have been stuck at 254 or 255 for almost a week now!  I know this is a normal part of WLS, but it still sucks.  After dropping 30 pounds in the first 3 weeks, I don't like seeing the progress stall.  I'm going to work on upping my liquids, and I've already walked today, hopefully things will start moving again.  On the upshot, the holidays were great.  and hey, I can't tell you the last time I lost weight, never mind thirty two pounds, between Thanksgiving and Christmas.  It really is remarkable.  I'm feeling pretty good all in all, even if I'm lacking a little energy these days, especially late in the afternoon.  I'm hoping in two more weeks to start back to spinning classes at the bike shop.  I'm really looking forward to riding this spring 75+ pounds lighter than I was last season!
