Surgery yesterday!

May 22, 2009

So I got lap-band surgery yesterday and it all went really well. Everyone was super nice at the CMC and the surgery was successful. I haven't been hungry at all since then and it's been almost 24 hours. I could get used to this...

Today I'm just in a lot of pain. It's hard to get in and out of bed or really any sitting/laying position to a standing one. I'm sleeping a lot which seems to help the pain until I have to get out of bed again. The majority of the pain is coming from the area where the port is so I wonder if something's screwed up with that or if this is all normal. Well I guess that's it for now. good luck to everyone!

Pre-op diet started today

May 14, 2009

So I figured I'd just share what my pre-op diet looks like so others can compare. The doctor said that I'd be down to about 1000-1200 calories a day and that protein was very important. Here's the diet for 1 day:

1 Lean Cuisine frozen meal
2-3 cans of Slim Fast
1 High protein bar
2 pieces of fruit
as much non-starch veggies and non-calorie drink as I want.

hmm not tooo bad let's see how I feel in a week.

About a week till surgery

May 12, 2009

So my surgery is for a week from this Thursday (it's Tues.) and I'm pretty excited to start the ball rolling. It's been such a long experience and I'm going to miss my old lifestyle but I bet that's what addicts say when they enter rehab so I'm ready to put the past behind me and move on in the future. I should have some before pics/measurements up here in a few days to help chart the progress. I'm really just nervous about how going back to college will be and how living in a dorm, eating at a cafe, etc. will affect the process. I asked the clinic that I'm getting my surgery at to give me an email of someone around my age that's getting lap band so we could talk about the different difficulties that being young have on the surgery. They gave me a cell number of a girl around my age. I'm not sure if I'm going to call her that's pretty nerve racking. Oh and I'm maintaining weight fine so that's a relief.

Anyways I start my diet in two days and suffer through it for a week. And that's about it, diet, then surgery. I'm nervous about what it's going to feel like, how much it's going to hurt, blah blah blah but that's all to be expected I guess.

umm yeah that's it. I'm not too nervous about regaining weight or whatever because I'm just going to do this. For the first time in my life I'm just going to do something full out and be happy with the end result. Let me know how you guys are all doing out there!

Surgery scheduled... couldn't be happier!

Apr 11, 2009

So I went in for my appointment with the surgeon at it went really well. I was actually underweight so they lied a little on my insurance form to get me to 40 bmi lol. She said I was a great candidate and that it's all going to go well as long as I stick with the program. My date is for MAY 21 at 10:30 in the morning. So all I have to do now is get through the 2-week pre-op diet and surgery and I'm home free. Oh yeah, and the whole weight loss thing after that. Well I'm super pumped and ready to take on the world.

Short ride in a fast machine

Mar 12, 2009

So I decided to get lap-band. Well I guess that seems obvious since I'm on here. I think I'm going to try my best to blog a lot about my experience since I think I'm sort of rare to this surgery being 18 and a guy. There isn't much information about how being a teenager and being in college affects the experience so I guess I'll just wait and see.

I've been big since I can remember. My mom used to say I had baby-fat. Wasn't really fat as a baby. I have tried it all like everyone else and I feel that this is it. I'd really like to avoid surgery if possible but I don't see any other option at this point. I'd really like to live out my remaining years as a kid before it's all over. I'm nervous for the surgery and for my life after. Admitedly, there's a lot of things that happen in college that no one will really address and I'm afraid to ask the doctors fearing them cancelling my surgery. So, like I said, I'll just have to test my limits and adapt to life after surgery post-op.

I'm getting my surgery done in NH because it's the only place where I live and it's supposed to be really good. I have all my stuff in and have a consult date with the surgeon. Hopefully I'll be getting surgery in May. I really dig the way people come together and help each other out for this type of thing. This whole website is really chill and I hope that I can aid/get support from all you guys!
