Its been a while since I have blogged on here as im now a facebook addict he he he

I found that I have been on a plateau for about 3 months now. Im not at all bothered by this, im just greateful that I have been able to go out and enjoy my life with my family.  Every weekend we make a point of doing something together and enjoy every moment life has to offer.

I turned 40 in May 2009 and I have never felt better.  Alot of people were commenting that I dont look 40 !!
God bless them lol I then told them I feel 28and they had a chuckle he he he  !!!!
Im on a constant high and cannot stop encouraging other people like me who have suffered all their lives with obesity.

Anyone out there considering weightloss surgery, go for it!! Just make sure that its a decision that you want to make for yourself not for others.

1 year Post Op - Weight loss 47.5 Kilos

Mar 23, 2009

Hi all
Its been a while since I have been blogging as we have travelled to Melbourne, Gold Coast etc and I am also now on facebook catching up with old school friends.  I met up with Dr Jorgensen and Nazy March 10th 2009 and I have lost a total of 47.5 Kilos since my operation 1 year ago.  They were both happy with my weight loss even though its slowing down my weight loss has been consistant.  My next step now is to lose as much as I can before my 40th Bday as I discussed with
Dr J and then My husband and I are going to try for another baby.  I will then tackle my Goal weight and skin removal if needed in the next 2 years.   I am very happy with my weight loss I know that I have a long way to go yet but I can honestly say that I am ALIVE and enjoying evey moment with my family.  As mentioned we travelled to Gold Coast and I was able to get on the Plane without Gasping for breath and also I big Giant step for me was that I didnt have to battle with the seat belt like i used to, it just fit like a glove.  For the first time since becoming a family, I was able to go on the rides at Seaworld and Dreamworld without feeling like a heffa or that I would get stuck :)  I am so happy I feel like im on a constant high.
Thank you Dr Jorgensen for giving me my life back !!! with Luv Effie xxx

9 Month Post -Op meeting with Dr Jorgensen

Nov 10, 2008

Dr Jorgensen and Effie Dr Jorgensen and Dad

I had my 9 monthly follow up with Nazy and Dr Jorgensen today both of which are extremely happy with my weightloss so far.  My blood tests came back all clear and my levels of Vitamin D and Folate have increased.  The parathyroid has improved tremendously which is good to see.

I feel so happy and want to express my deepest thanks to you Dr Jorgensen, I know you probably hear this all the time from your patients however with your knowledge, guidence and advice you have given me the opportunity to find myself again. We as a family go out almost every weekend and do things together.  Nothing is a struggle anymore and at my daughters 3rd birthday which was last Sunday 9th November I was able to dance and play games with the kids.  Last Year I struggled to walk and entertaining was so hard as I was out of breath.

So I decided to make you my transitional photo for you to show other patients just how much both my father and I have lost and how you gave us back our lives.  Please feel free to give my website details to anyone considering doing weight loss surgery as I would like to inspire them just like I was.  Thanks again Dr Jorgensen Kindest Regards Effie

40 Kilos lighter woo hoo !!!!

Sep 11, 2008

Well what can I say, I feel so good and so happy within myself.  I have now  lost 40 kilos and my current weight is 112 kilos.  We went on holidays to Melbourne and have just gotten back.  Well I shocked myself as I was walking everywhere and not once was I puffed out.  I think I tired out Leslie and Elizabeth lol......

For the first time in my life im not questioning should I or shouldnt I go out as im more confident than ever about my body.  I want to thank my parents both in Sydney and My parents in Melbourne for all their love and support through my journey.  My Husband is now able to lift me up without breaking his back lol and I can now sit on the floor and get up without too much fuss.

For those people who are considering doing Vertical Gastric Sleeve Operation, I say go for it.  It has changed my life so much, and has given me the opportunity to live life to the max with my Husband and Daughter.

Lost 30 Kilos

Well what can I say, I am feel soooooooooo good, so much energy I cant stop myself. I feel like I want to scream from excitement on the amount of weight I have lost so far. I am shocked in the fact that I was carrying this amount of weight and much more that Im yet to shred.  I have taken a recent photo so that I can compare my weight loss of 30 kilos and here it is, is so obvious that I have lots weight and my body is taking a new shape.

I just recently joined the yahoo Australian Weight Loss Support Group and have had heaps of people email me congraulating me on my new life changing experience.  I have also had heaps of people message me asking questions as they are considering the Gastric Sleeve Op.

The one thing I can say to all these people is GO FOR IT !! You just have to make sure that this is what you want and to look more long term for a better healthier lifestyle.

I can now do the following.

1) Sit in a seat without worrying if it will collapse or that I woulnt be able to fit.

2) Bend and put my socks on my feet  & tie my shoe laces without using a chair for help.

3) Clean the house without building up a sweat and its taking me half the time as I have so much energy

4) Play/Dance with my daughter without feeling tired or my back hurting me

5) Scratch my back with no assistance

6) Fit into clothes that I couldnt get into a while back

7) I have gone down a cup size in my bra

8) Have a bath without struggling to get out

Good Luck to all who have done the op and who are considering it.

Keep you posted Kindest Regards Effie

Gastric Sleeve Operation A Success !!!

Feb 26, 2008

Today is the start of my new life of health and happiness!

I arrived in the DOSA waiting area, Leslie had come too but had to leave for work so mum stayed with me until the op. While anxiously waiting to start my new life, I met another one of Dr Jorgensens Patients Rita. She too was going to have surgery however Rita was having the banding done and I was having the sleeve. We exchanged details and vowed to keep in contact so that we can support eachother. I was 4th In line to be operated on so at around 12pm I was taken to theatre so I could be prepared for the Gastric Sleeve Operation. Dr Jorgensens Anasthesilogist Dr Goodie was unavailable on the day so we had an on call Anasthesilogist instead.

I remember being ithe pain as the Anasthesilogist was running the Arterial Lines in my wrist while I was awake. Shortly after the nurse placed the gas over my face and I drifted off to sleep. I woke up in the recovery ward at around 2:00pm feeling good and wasnt in too much pain or discomfort. I was then taken to ward 2 south where I spent 5 days until I was able to go home. I didnt have any vomiting bouts the only thing I had was a little nausea and feeling a little pressure in the chest area. The doctors thought It would be wise for me to have a CT Scan to make sure that the pain I was feeling wasnt any clots as I have had a History of Clotting caused by the Antibody Anticardiolipin. Once the results came back Dr Jorgensen came to visit me one last time to let me know that I am able to leave tomorrow being Sunday. He told me that he is happy with my recovery and that Im doing extremely with my new life changing experience. I am to follow up with Dr Jorgensen in 2 weeks then I will see Nazy the Dietitician to make sure that Im coping well with the meals etc.

I would like to thank all the staff in 2 south for all your support, advice and some handy hints regarding post op recovery as you all made my recovery time a blessing.

Thank you to Dr Diamond for helping me sort out my issues pre op thanks also for fitting me in your schedule in such short notice and thanks for visiting me while I was on the ward.

Thank you to Nazy a fantastic Dietician for guiding me along the way regarding my menu planning and supporting me pre and post op.

Sincere thanks go out to you Dr Jorgensen!! You have given me the opportunity to change my life around. To be able to feel like a human being, a mum and a wife. You are a fantastic Doctor who really cares about his patients and you are very passionate in your field of work. Im have no regrets about doing the Gastric Sleeve Operation actually I feel alive for the first time in my life. I wish there were more Doctors like you thanks again.

PRE-OPERATION : Weight 152KG

Oct 01, 2007

START WEIGHT PRE-OPERATION : 152KG

I decided that it was time to make major changes to my life, the first of them being my excessive weight gain over the years. In the last 2 years I have been doing research into weighloss surgery and decided that I needed help. I spoke to my GP Dr Makary and told him how I couldnt stand being overweight anymore and that I had looked into surgery, he recommended that I have weightloss surgery done, but he mentioned that there were several types of operations and that I would have to attend a seminar.

He gave me a referral to see Dr John Jorgensen up at St George Private Hospital. I met with Dr Jorgensen on the 2nd October 2007 (1 week after the seminar) and he asked me several questions regarding my health and my emotional state. He agreed that I was a candidate for the Gastric Sleeve Operation ( removal of 3/4 of the stomach organ ) the best operation for me as I am supre obese and had a BMI of 66. He looked at my blood test results and noticed that I had severly deficiency to Vitamin D and he wanted me to see Dr Terry Diamond who is an endocrinologist for further evaluation. I had also seen the Dietician Nazy who recommended that I do the Optifast Diet at least 4-6 weeks prior surgery.

Dr Diamond had seen me and given me a Vitamin D Injection straight away and got me to do more blood tests to see if I had any more dissorders. 3 months later and my Vitamiin D levels had increased from 15 to 100 which is well within the reange and is okay.

Dr Diamond had also got me to do a Bone Density Test and the results were 100% all over except for me lumbar spine area had 80% he was a little concerned. He said that he would give me another lot of Vitamin D in the Hospital as they can do it intreveniously.

I saw Doctor Jorgensen on the 6th November to let him know that I had seen Dr Diamond and he told me to hold off from having the operation until the end of January so that my levels can increase and I would be out of danger. Dr Jorgensen booked the Surgery Date in for 27th February 2008 which was perfect timing as we will be back from our holiday to Melbourne for Xmas. So I was to start the optifast 3 meal replacement 14th January 2008.

On the 12th February 2008 I had my last consultation with Dr Jorgensen and Dietician Nazy. I was weighed and guess what ???? I lost 7.5 kilos prior to my surgery which is a bonus, I was so pumped. So I said goodbye to the old me and will see a new me from 27th Feb 08. Woo Hoo.
