First Breakdown.

May 03, 2012

The last 2 days I have been so nauseated that nothing sounds good to eat, and even looking at my isopure drinks makes me dry heave.  Yesterday I found that after I ate some scrambled eggs it helped my nausea, so I think I am just getting hungry.  So the problem is Im hungry but NOTHING sound good, everything I fix myself ends up in the trash.  The only thing that sounds good are carbs.  Crackers, bread, potatoes etc.  My dietician/surgeon are ANTI carbs EVER again.  Tonight at dinner I cooked adam and ally spagetti, and made me some deviled ham with a slice of cheese. It sounded good but when I sat down to eat it, I couldnt swallow it.  I ended up getting up and getting a leftover grilled chicken leg from last night and mashed potatoes.  Still I didnt want to eat it, but after I ate a few bites of chicken I felt much less nauseated.  I had my breakdown at the table.  Mainly because I just want to eat "normal" food already.  By normal, I dont mean junk food, I just mean the food I was eating before surgery while on my low carb diet.  Im having such mixed feelings because I believe in my surgeons no carbs ever again plan, but looking on here and other sites, I see people who are 6 months + out and are eating carbs in moderation and do just fine.  I guess I dont see a problem with occasionally enjoying corn, or mashed potatoes, as long as it doesnt become habit.  Am I totally wrong?  Setting myself up for failure?  I have no desire for sweeets whatsoever.  I am getting in my fluids-all water, everything sweet is just gross to me.  It feels awesome to see the weight coming off, but I feel like I need to be eating more than I am for sure, but they say as long as your getting fluids in first.  I dont know....

Other Side

Apr 30, 2012

Well Well Well what do you know?  Im finally on the other side!  I have lost a total of 37 pounds (well thats what the scale said yesterday) since i started this journey, about which 24 are since surgery.  I went in for surgery about 7:30am and I swear they gave me too much anesthesia because I was a zombie that whole day pretty much. As far as pain goes, from the surgery site itself, nada, but I had horrible shoulder pain that they kept telling me was gas, which at first I believed.  They tell you to walk it off, well everytime I would get up and go for a walk, or even talk on the phone where I struggled to breathe a little more it would be excruciating so he wanted to see me back 6 days later and he says my diaphragm must've got bumped based on the fact that it only hurts when I breathe hard, or am up walking.  Luckily I havent had any issues with this for about 5 days and seem to be doing great.  I havent had any problems with liquids, the only thing is that everything with a sweet flavor makes me want to throw up, so as far as the liquid diet goes, when I started feeling a ltitle hungry, I was basically out of luck because the protein stuff was all sweet.  So I lived on water for 11 days.  My dietician had pity on me and started letting me do mushy saturday.  I havent had ANY problems at all with eating, Im just doing what they said to do and it seems to be going down just fine.  I feel really fortunate that I am less than 2 weeks out, pain free, and doing fine with liquids and food.  I started going back to work until 11 am after a week, and this week is my first week back full time.  I go tomorrow for the "technical" diet class where they introduce you to all the vitamins and jazz.  I have this horrible taste in my mouth and my tongue is white, and from what I've read it is a stage called ketosis, which is a good thing when youre trying to lose weight.

2 weeks!

Apr 03, 2012

Well, my surgery date is 2 weeks away!  I cannot believe it!  I go thursday for my pre op appointment.  I have been going back and forth between 11 and 13 pounds for the last week, so yesterday I decided that all this week (until my pre op when I am expected to have lost that 13 pounds) I will be on liquids all day unitl supper.  Well yesterday I was at 11-12 pounds down, and this mroning when I got on the scale I was 15 pounds down!  I would say the liquid thing worked!  I will have to keep it off for the 2 weeks, my surgeon makes us get on a scale the morning of surgery, and if we are not down our set weight, we dont have surgery .  Im hoping at my pre op appoingment they dont change my surgery date or anything. Nothing has been really set in stone, but so far they keep telling me the 17th. My husband took his vacation time during that week so it better be!!!  Anyways, getting a little nervous, starting to watch youtube videos that people have put on there fresh out of surgery.  Excited and scared.   I will try to remember to update after my pre op appointment!

Pre Op Diet Class

Mar 23, 2012

Wednesday I went to my pre op diet class, where they explain what and how I will be eating for the rest of my life.  It is scary to think about the first month or so post op, but I know if I dont do this surgery, I will NEVER lose this weight.  I am down 12 lbs (1 more to go to meet goal!) I have been following the diet pretty closely, and so I know that the last pound will not be hard at all.  I havent been able to get out and walk the last few days thanks to (A) the rain and (B) my daughter has had the flu  I am the kind of person who if I get home and sit down I will not get out and excersise, but if I get off work and go straight to walking I will do it everytime.  Anyways,  I  go for my preop on April 5th and surgery is still on track for the 17th. After all the insurance horror stories I've read about I keep thinking that my luck will run out and they will come back and say "nevermind".  Im such a negative thinker, and to think that I am so fortunate to get this opportunity is beyond me.

Things seem to be falling into place.

Mar 13, 2012

I hope that I am right about my title, and that things do KEEP falling into place.  I went in last tuesday (3-6) for my sleep study, and it was a nightmare.  After I finished, the tech told me that my "number" was 9 and it needed to be under 5 so they would probably send me back for another one.  Well, I went to my surgeon appointment the next day and told him that that number didnt mean anything to me but probably woudl to him.  He said that yes, it did and yes I had sleep apnea and when he got the results a second sleep study wwould be in order, unless my insurance would pay for an auto pap.
FAST FORWARD to yesterday......
I hadnt heard anything from either my PCP or surgeon about my test results, but yesterday at 2 a lady from our hospital called and said that the head of the sleep lab told her to call me because there had been a cancellation and I was hving surgery and was on a time deadline to get on a CPAP.  I told her that I hadnt even heard from my surgeon, but I would call and figure out if needed to take that appointment. She said the next available appointment if I didnt take the one yesterday would be april (which would eventually set my surgery date back).  I called Dr. B's office and they said they hadnt seen the result, but if the sleep guy said I needed one then I would need one, so take that appointment.  I asked them to prescribe me a sleeping pill, and then hung up. Called the hospital back and they said they would need orders, so I tried calling Dr. B back but couldnt get ahold of them because it was a day where they mostly do surgeries and not appointments.  Anyway, it was mad chaos, to get everything done by tomorrow night.  BUT WE ACCOMPLISHED IT!  I went and got my sleeping pill, went home and shaved and everything that I had to do before sleep study, then went to the hospital and registered, went to eat with my mom (as planned originally) went to my daughters school program at 6 (she was student of the month!) and made it to the sleep lab by 7:30.  it was a crazy night.
I decided on the mask that just covers the nose, even though it was weird when I opened my mouth having all that air go out, but I didnt feel like I belonged in the back of an ambulance quite as much as with the full face mask.  The sleep tech said that as soon as I turned off my kindle, I was OUT!  THANK YOU AMBIEN!  They came in and woke me up this morning.  SO MUCH BETTER THAN LAST TIME!
I was up way earlier than normal today, so I drank my protein shake at 6:00 vs 8:30, so by the time I wsa on my way to work and taking Ally to school I decided to run to mcdonalds.  I ate a breakfast burrito but I figure, A breakfast burrito is better than before when I would have ordered the meal with TWO burritos and A hashbrown.  I will be going to lucn hwith a friend but will stick to grilled chicken and green beans, and see what time my DH gets off work as to if I cook dinner for us, or just drink a protein shake and feed Ally something.

10 Lbs!

Mar 13, 2012

I went to my monthly visit with my surgeon, dietician, excersise, etc on thursday (3-8).  I had lost 5 lbs (of the 13 I need to lose) since my last visit, and they all said how good that was.  Well little did they know that I had only technically started on their "diet" about a week before that.  So my dietician put me on the pre op agressive track diet thursday, and my goal is to get the 13 lbs off by the time I go in for my diet class on the 21st.  Well, since thursday Im down another 5 lbs.  I got on my scale yesterday morning and I was down like 9.2 and this morning I am down a full 10! WOO HOO! 3 more pounds to go, and technically I still have over a month to do it before my surgery (4-17) .  This might sound really bad, and it shows my complete weakness, but I would like to get down enough to give me some wiggle room to eat some of the things I havent had on this diet, and wont have again (rolls, bread, brownie).  But this diet doesnt seem too bad at all.  Yesterday morning I had a protein shake, then around 10 I had a grape prootein drink (tastes just like koolaid yummy!) for lunch I had 2 fat free hot dogs, tomato and a piece of low fat cheese, around 3 I had a peanut butter protein bar (that tasted like reeses almost!) and for dinner last night I had steak and green beans.  before bed I had another grape protein drink.  It is definetly something I can get used to, but the fat girl in me wants another oreo befoer she undergoes this life change, by golly!
