Just back from my cruise...

Nov 09, 2008

I went on a cruise with my Parents and my Sister's family. Hubby couldn't go as he had other Army obligations to attend to. We went on a 7 night cruise to the Caribbean and had a great time. It was nice to be in the warm weather again! It has snowed here in NY twice already so the sun and heat were a welcome change.

I wound up losing 6 pounds during the week and that made me happy when I came home. The first night of the cruise I felt sick but I think I ate too quickly. I forgot my watch and no one else had one so I was estimating my 5 minutes between bites. Other than that I really didn't have any issues.

It was awesome to know that I could be "normal" and go on a family vacation without having issues.

I am now down 69 pounds- 54 of which are post op pounds lost. What an amazing feeling!! Everything is lose on my now and I'm getting down to the last size of clothes that I have in my closet, lol. I had pant sizes 26, 24 and 22 in my closet and I'm very near fitting in to 20's. I'll have to hit the thrift stores and salvation army soon. I'm going to have to check out OH's Clothing Exchange too.

Feeling great about myself (for a change)...

Oct 19, 2008

I never thought that 45-60 pounds would make such a great impact on how I feel considering all that I have to lose! I am now down 45 pounds (60 overall) in almost 8 weeks. My body feels great and I'm able to move around SO MUCH MORE! I take the stairs all the time and I'm never winded anymore.

I went to Cooperstown, NY yesterday with DH and two of our good friends and for the FIRST TIME ever I wasn't sweating to death while walking around the museum. Any other time we've been sightseeing I would be sweating just from moving around and it was horribly embarrassing. It didn't matter if the temps where in the low 50's like yesterday. That was a MAJOR Non-scale victoriy for me.

I already have so much self-confidence because I know that I will keep succeeding and reaching the goals that I have set forth. I wound up buying a T-shirt yesterday in a size large because I know in about 8-12 months that I'll probably fit in it. What an amazing feeling!

Down 40 pounds post op and 55 total!!

Oct 13, 2008

Mark and I just got home from our weekend in New Jersey. It went VERY well and I have to say it really was easy since I went there prepared with my own food if needed.

We arrived at my Sister's house around 11:45pm Friday night and it was an exhausting drive since we both worked a full day first. We got only a few hours of sleep and then had a busy Satuday ahead of us.

For breakfast at my Sister's I had 1/2 of a Mini Whole Wheat bagel with 1 tbsp. PB2. For lunch we went to Chili's and this was the FIRST restaurant experience for me. I ordered a Grilled Chicken Sandwich and asked for the honey mustard dressing on the side and for either american or cheddar instead of the swiss that it came with. Well they didn't follo any of the requests but luckily the sandwich had barely any honey-mustard on it. I ate about 1/3 of the chicken breast and gave the rest to my sister to take home.

We drove to Mark's brothers house and brought them 2 large pizza's for dinner. I brought 1/3 cup of salad with light Italian Dressing and about 1oz. of Low-Fat WW Cheddar cheese. These are individually wrapped and are AWESOME!!!  I also had all of my water and a protein shake.

Sunday for breakfast I scrambled one egg. Lunch today was while we were tailgating at the Jets game. I brought another WW cheese and 1/4 of a whole wheat sandwich with turkey and light mayo. I do have to admit that when we were seated at the game I was wanting a pretzel so badly! That was actually the biggest temptation that I have felt since surgery almost 7 weeks ago!

Sunday night we went to my parent's for dinner and two sets of my Aunt's and Uncle's came out just to see me! They all live an hour away from my Mom and Dad so that made me feel good! My Dad grilled chicken but put BBQ sauce on all of the chicken breasts so I opted to slice some chicken off of the roaster my Mom made the night before. I had 1/2 oz. of Fresh Mozzarella and 1 large green bean. Dessert was Apple Crumb Cake and boy did it look good!!! I was a bit jealous, lol.

This morning I had 1/2 of a mini whole wheat bagel with 1 tbsp. of regualr peanut butter and then we took off for home.

I weighed myself immediately since I couldn't for the last two days, lol. I am down exactly 40 pounds since surgery and 55 since I started seeing surgeon. When I lose just 5 more pounds I'll be the lowest weight that I've been since 2000!!!

I have my first "trip" away from home coming up...

Oct 07, 2008

I am a little bit nervous about this weekend. Friday after DH gets out of work we are making the 6 hour drive to NJ. We will stay with my sister but will see both sides of the family and attend the Jets vs. Cincinnati football game on Sunday. We will be tailgating with my in-laws (MIL, FIL, BIL, SIL) and my Cousin and his Wife. I plan on bringing a whole wheat mini pita with turkey and low-fat cheese.  This is a tried and true item that I know I won't get sick on. Perhaps I'll bring a Mini Bag of Kay's Protein Snacks too.

I'm just nervous about being away from my house. I know I need to prepare, prepare, prepare and I will. I'll pack all of my foods that I need to survive.

This will be a really good dress rehearsal for the end of the month when I go on a cruise with my family. I'll be driving down to my Sister's again for Halloween and then we leave the next morning at 5:30am to fly to Florida for the cruise. I am going with my Parent, Sister, her BF and her daughter. DH was not able to get off of work. To prepare I printed off some menu's and I'll bring them to my NUT tomorrow to see what the best selections would be. I know that typically fish and chicken are ideal (especially without sauces) but I would like to know if Lamb or Duck is ok or if it is too greasy.

I'll definitely post about how the weekend goes!

Hit the 30 pound mark!

Sep 30, 2008

So it took me 5 days past my goal date but that last pound was stubborn, lol. I wound up only losing 1 pound in the last 6 days and that can get frustrating. I wind up weighing myself everyday and while I know that isn't the best idea I definitely need to. Mark did take the scale away in the beginning but I managed to get it back . I should say that it doesn't ruin my day or alter anything for me if I don't see the numbers moving fast enough other than the moment I'm on the scale but then I simply say to myself "oh well."

My first dumping experience...

Sep 27, 2008

I had my first dumping experience last night. I made a meatloaf out of lean ground beef and it tasted great. I had it along with 2 bites of mashed potatoes and 1/4 cup steamed carrots cut up into small pieces. I did what is recommended and concentrated on the protein first. I finished eating because after 20 minutes it felt like it was stuck. I sat on the couch for 40 minutes and just didn't feel well at all.

All of a sudden I knew I was definitely going to vomit. In my support group the leader talks about dumping syndrome often and explained that usually when you vomit it is just a little pile of bubbles and then you feel better. This was NOT my experience last night. I threw up every single morsel of that meatloaf. It wasn't pleasant but I was immediately better once I finished vomitting.

So, beef of any sort is off of my list for now, lol. What can you do? I just hope to limit these circumstances. I know that most people find that beef isn't compatible right away but I needed to try it for myself.

So far what I have been able to eat is: Lettuce, Salmon, Light Blue Cheese crumbles, Light Colby- Jack cheese, whole wheat bagels (mini, 1/2 at a meal), whole wheat bread (doesn't have to be toasted), Light Alouette Garlic and Herb chese spread, Wheat thins and Whole Wheat Pita pockets. I think that is all I've tried since I started stage 3 on Thursday.

My first goal...

Sep 24, 2008

My first goal is to lose 30 pounds in the first month. As of this morning I am down 29 pounds. This Saturday is my one month surgiversary so if I reach my goal great and if not this is close enough, lol.

I've been so good about getting my walking in and really it just makes me proud of myself. I keep wondering if I am following the rules so well why couldn't I do that without the surgery. Like everyone else I'd lose 30-40 pounds with Weight Watchers and the minute that I didn't follow the plan I'd gain back the weight I'd lost plus some.

I'll definitely post some of my post op pictures this weekend. I saw a tenant from work two days ago and she said "you look so different, especially in the face." I told her about the GB and it turns out that two of her friends have done it and so we talked about it for a few minutes.

I will say that I can already tell that I'll have issues with any attention I get from men after I lose the bulk of hte weight. One of my co-workers that I haven't seen since before surgery was complimenting me and asking me questions yesterday and I got uncomfortable about the compliments. It is just something that I am not used to.

Sticking to the plan isn't hard

Sep 22, 2008

When I was pre-op I thought that it would be really difficult to follow the plan. I have discovered though that it really isn't hard at all. Now I do realize that I am less than a month post op and I haven't eaten real food yet other than soft foods but still I feel really great about everything!

I'm really looking forward to discovering new foods starting on Thursday. I know that there are foods that tend to get stuck or not agree with most people like chicken, beef, rice, broccoli and bread but I'll still give them a try.

I purchased the PB2 that everyone talks about in the threads and I mixed some up. I let it sit for a few minutes and it seemed to the be same consistency as regular peanut butter. Mark tasted it and said it was good. I tried a drop of it and I liked it well enough. I'm looking forward to 1/2 slice of whole wheat toast with some PB2.

As for exercise that has been going really well. I can't workout other than walking at this point but I do look forward to lifting very light weights and jogging along with my aerobics tapes. I've been using my treadmill 5-6 times per week. I walk for 25 minutes and get slightly over a mile in and I burn about 150 calories for each session.

I'm down 26 pounds now and that is so exciting. In 5 days it will be my one month surgiversary and I am hoping to be down 30 pounds by then. I'm pretty sure it is possible and I guess I won't be dissapointed if I don't make that goal.

3 Weeks post op

Sep 18, 2008

I am 3 weeks post op now and everything is still going very well. I am down 24 pounds and that is awesome. I am not quite down a pant size yet but I am close. Since the weather is changing here (it is 38 degrees as I write this at 8:16 am but will be 73 today) I may have to buy a pair or two of long pants. My capri's just aren't cutting it anymore as I've been too cold.

I organized my closet and it turns out that I have 3 sizes of clothes to choose from. I've been wearing 30/32 tops and size 26 bottoms but they are defiitely getting loose. I also have a good selection of size 24's and 22's and once I fit in them I really don't think that I'll have to buy any clothing until I reach size 20. Hopefully that will be around Christmas (or shortly after) and I'll ask for gift cards to shop with. I'm DYING to wear clothes from NY & Company again! I haven't been able to fit in their clothes since they were Lerner's, lol.

I saw the Nutritionist and Doctor's last Thursday, September 11th. They said I was doing well and next Thursday (September 25th) I can move on to the third and final stage of the diet. I'm excited about trying a wider variety of foods! Nothing has made me sick YET and I know there will be foods that don't agree with me anymore so I am prepared for that.

This is my last week of working part time and I've been loving it. I've been working 10-2 instead of 8-4. This has allowed me to wake up and eat breakfast for 30 minutes, walk on the treadmill for 25 minutes, shower and get ready for work and I've still been early! Going back at 8am Monday will be hard, lol. I won't be able to exercise in the morning so I'll have to be vigilant about getting my walks done at night.

Doing really well!

Sep 02, 2008

Today I am 6 days post op (nearly to the minute as I write this). I still cannot believe how great it's been going for me. The only issue that I have had was that as of this morning I still hadn't had a BM. I called the Doctor's office first thing this morning and they said to take a dose of Milk of Magnesia and that worked in about 90 minutes. It was a relief because not going for so long made me worry that something might be wrong.

I started my Stage 2 diet today too. For breakfast I had Cream of Wheat which tasted great. For lunch I had Tuna with Light Mayo and for dinner I had 1 Hardboiled Egg White (I HATE egg yolk). I made a dozen eggs last night so I can make egg salad for my hubby and I figured I would add any extra yolks that I don't eat to it.

Everything went VERY well with the soft foods! I was very relieved though I understand some new foods may not agree with me or these foods at a later time.

Tomorrow I plan on having Cream of Wheat again for breakfast, L/F Ricotta Cheese for lunch and Tuna for dinner.

I've weighed myself and I'm down 8 pounds over the last 6 days.
