First week back at work

Oct 28, 2011

I was fortunate to have 6 weeks off to recover. I didn't have problems or pain or anything but I needed to make the lifestyle adjustments before I re-entered the Rat Race. The stress here is unreal and also the bathroom is a loooooong way away :O

I am down 20 lbs. since surgery 40 lbs. overall. I have given away or consigned a box full of clothes already. I haven't told anyone about my surgery yet because I just want to enjoy things the way they are for a bit.

I'm getting all my protein vitamins, water, and exercise...food, not so much. The hardest thing for me to do is wait 30 minutes between eating and drinking. I'm doing it because I know why it's important. It's just not a natural habit yet. Oh, and I'm a dumper, but I think I'm glad about that. All meats and most veggies go down well, and small amounts of cheese. Lactose is evil.

Hubby and kids have been great! My surgeon is great, too. Overall, I feel like the luckiest woman alive. Best decision I ever made.

3 weeks post-sugery

Oct 03, 2011

I made it safely to the other side! The Good Lord has been with me through it all, just as He said He would be. The surgery only took 1 1/2 hours even with a hiatal hernia repair. Dr. Fernandez said it was due to the fact that I followed all of his team's pre-surgery instructions. I have had very little pain except when the intern pulled/yanked/heaved my drain out the day I was discharged from the hospital  :O

I have been able to get in all my water, vitamins, and protein every day so far. Food...not so much. Some days I can send solid food down and other days not so much. I understand it's normal. I am getting to know my new stomach a little more each day.

I'm down 33 lbs. so far. I have pants on the ground :)

Week 2 of Pre-Surgery Diet & Some Major 'Tude Already...

Sep 06, 2011

Not much to say...jello, yoghurt, jello, yoghurt. I am down 18 lbs., though.

Went to the pre-op appointment last Friday, and the nurse asked me if I really need this surgery. I said, "Well, 18 lbs. down and 95 to go...yeah I really do." WHAT was that all about? I expect that sort of thing from family, friends, and co-workers, but not from the medical staff at the hospital  :O  On top of that, the anesthesiologist said, "You don't really look like you qualify for this surgery."  I get it. I don't look like I'm morbidly obese. I wish I wasn't morbidly obese. But I am morbidly obese. Wow, interesting day.

I've started week 3 of the pre-surgery diet. The only thing that's different this week is that I have to eliminate caffeine. Headache. I really miss my multivitamins. The food part seems to be OK, though.

I've filled all the prescriptions, and ordered all the bariatric vitamins. Now I'm just waiting.

Toodles.

Week One of Pre-Surgery Diet Done

Aug 29, 2011

Week one is done, and it wasn't that bad. I mean, there's really not much to say about jello and applesauce. I was pretty hungry on day three, but I gave myself an attitude smackdown and it was all good.

Work is crazy busy, family stuff is awesome. I can't complain. Hubby went with me yesterday to the final pre-surgery NUT meeting. He wrote silly comments on my study papers to make me smile. He's the best. It reminded us of the time we got thrown out of a music appreciation class for giggling when we were at college together. He offered to help me figure out my goal weight, which means I told him my current weight...BIG step for me. He took it in stride, did the ciphering, then said. "ooooo girl, you gonna be tiny!" More giggles. NUT prolly thought we were nuts lol.

Beginning week two, and I have to discontinue multivitamin today. Ain't gonna lie, imma miss those suckers. Later.

2nd Day of 3-Week Pre-Surgery Diet

Aug 24, 2011

Hungry, but grateful to be at this point in my journey. Maybe I'll lose a couple of pounds during this 3 weeks...

I had trouble concentrating at work today, but I really think it had more to do with the fact that 3 of our 4 children were having mini crises all day and they called me a lot. It's flattering, but man.....

Going to dive into a good book now before bed. Can't wait for day 3

1st Day of 3-Week Pre-Surgery Diet

Aug 22, 2011

I'm pretty excited about today because it means I'm one step closer to surgery . I was prepared for this, so I packed some stuff to take with me to work. I work 10 hour days, so i gotta pace myself. I made chocolate raspberry greek yogurt by mixing Torani chocolate and raspberry sugar free syrups with plain Oikos greek yogurt and Splenda. Probably didn't need Splenda, now that I think about it... I threw in a snack pack size low sugar applesauce and mixed a double serving of Nectar strawberry mousse protein shake with water. At this point, I find I'm prefering fruit flavored shakes mixed with water because I have a lifelong lactose sensitivity (causes gas and constipation and is no bueno). Most of the protein powders I've tried so far work OK with just water. I mean let's face it, they ain't all that great no matter what, right? It's gotta be all about the nutrition anyway.

Life Stuff: youngest child (we have 4) started community college yesterday. Her boyfreind dumped her the day before, so there's lots of emotion flying everywhere. Hubby and me feel like therapists because at any given time at least two of the offspring are stressing about something LOL. We have a strong family bond, though. We've been married for 26 years and all four children are our biological non-step children...pretty odd for our neck of the woods. Makes teamwork a lot easier, too.

Other Life Stuff: for four months now, I've been missing most of my lower back teeth due to an accident. I haven't been able to chew anything all that time. Only lost 10 pounds though phtttttttt. Today They will restore the left half and next week the right half. Just in time for my mush diet phase. I find that absolutely hilarious! Oh, and I told my mom that I'm having WLS. I said "I've made a decision about something and I hope I can count on your support." It worked

Off to work now.

Here we go...

Aug 17, 2011

I've finally made the tremendous decision to stop lurking and start participating. That would apply to both OH and to my life. Even though, for me, being obese blows in every possible way, I have steadfastly refused heretofore to ask for help. I like to delude myself that I am smarter than I think I am--that's how I ended up being obese in the first place. By default then, I guess that makes me some kind of a double-idiot? Confession really is good for the soul.

I must give God all the credit for leading me to the decision to have WLS. I asked Him for a diet plan that would work. He led me almost immediately to a bariatric surgery seminar in April 2011, and now I'm here waiting for my surgery date on Sept. 13. God doesn't do things halfway with me either. He also put at least 2 people in my path that have had RNY, and He even had my insurance company approve my request within 24 hours. When I got the approval letter, I was really excited until I read the first sentence: "We have approved your surgery request for morbid obesity." BUZZKILL!  Nothing like seeing it put into words...morbid obesity. My husband/best friend/baby daddy/childhood sweetheart immediately nicknamed me "Morbie" because he honestly thinks it's hilarious that I would be considered obese. He thinks I'm beautiful. To his credit, I don't look like I weigh as much as I do. Spanx are amazing...

So now I wait. Did I mention I'm not a patient person? I am using this time to prepare physically and mentally for the ride of a lifetime. I still have my pre-surgery NUT appointment to attend on August 29, and my pre-op surgeon/anesthesia consults on Sept. 2. Oh, and the 3 week liquid diet thingy starting next week.

Things I'm looking forward to after surgery:

1. The look on my mother-in-law's face.

2. The look on my mother-in-law's face.
3. The look on my mother-in-law's face.
4. Traveling.
5. Crossing my legs.
6. No stress fractures in my feet.
7. Casually throwing on a pair of jeans and a t-shirt/sweatshirt.
8. Dancing.
9. Not being invisible.
10. Not knocking things over with my butt.

Gotta work now. It's great to be here!
