Two More Down
Apr 08, 2008
So yesterday I had my pulmonary function test and chest x-ray.
Sunday is my sleep study and then I meet with nutritionist on Wednesday.
I have a feeling that I'm not going to be approved and I'm depressed.

First Consult
Mar 22, 2008
I had my first consult with Dr. Quinlin yesterday. I was pretty impressed with how efficiently the office ran. They said to expect to be there 2 to 2 1/2 hours but I was out in an hour and a half. I was weighed in (BLAH---I'm bigger than I thought) and then had my blood pressure checked. The Dr. came in a few minutes later and we talked about my previous surgery, the various reasons for failure. He poked and prodded some and then told me the list of tests he was recommending. So on Monday I have to start calling around to make appointments for my Upper GI, U/S of Gallbladder, Psych Consult, etc. I did meet with the nutritionist and went over my eating habits and talked about reducing carbs, increasing proteins, fluids and exercise. My next appointment with the nutritionist is April 19th.
Set Back
Feb 25, 2008
So I had to reschedule my appointment for last week as the Drs. office never received my completed paperwork. I had faxed it and mailed a copy off a week prior to the appointment but they didn't receive it until the day after.
When I went to reschedule, I could only get an appointment for March 20th. Another whole month away.
I had to call Friday to make sure they had my paperwork and that's when I found out that it was received Thursday, they claim to have never received my fax...unfortunately I have no confirmation of fax receipt because our fax at work doesn't give one unless you program the request in, and of course I didn't. So when I called, I asked if I could get an appointment for any of the testing needed and was told no, that the dr. orders the testing depending on the initial exam. I told the office manager that because I was seeking a revision, I would be needing an Upper GI, so could they at least send a prescription for that, but I was told again no.
I'm a little discouraged by this...when I was initially researching revisions I had contacted another surgeon's office in the area and was told to obtain a copy of my original operative report and contact them for a script for an Upper GI. I decided to use Dr. Quinlin and Pittsburgh Bariatrics because of their reputation and pre/post surgery program, but I'm tempted to call up the other's surgeon office, get a script for the Upper GI and making sure I get a copy of the results to bring to my appointment on March 20th.

Researching Revision Surgery
Jan 02, 2008
In November 1998, I had Open VGB surgery in NYC. I lost 80 lbs, but never got down to goal weight.
After 2 kids my weight has started to come back. I've regained 40 lbs. of my original loss and my weight seems to be climbing steadily.
I never got much support after my first surgery. I lived and worked in the suburbs, my doctor was in NYC and the office didn't have any support groups etc. at the time.
So I've been researching having a revision and go to a weight loss seminar at St. Margaret's Hospital in Pittsburgh, where' I'm currently living with my husband and two beautiful kids, on Tuesday January 8th.
