Pre Op Testing....CHECK!!!!

Dec 19, 2014

Whew! Glad that's over! Very long morning. Worst part was the barium swallow test! Don't want to ever do that again in my life. All in all it went okay. I think they send my results to the surgeon and then I should be hearing from the surgeons office in about 10 days for a date hopefully?  Two concerns were my elevated WBC levels an my hemoglobin which is up to 10.9 now. I guess I'm on my way guys!

APPROVED!!!

Dec 05, 2014

I just got my call today. Coral told me I'm approved and that it only took three days for the insurance to respond. Yay me! Now I just need to get my hemoglobin levels up. I know for a fact that Dr. Inman won't do the surgery until my hemoglobin is higher and last I checked it was 7.7. So let me pop an iron pill right now!

Just had my hysterectomy yesterday...

Nov 19, 2014

Anyone know how long I have to wait for WLS? The hysterectomy was done laparoscopically. I am going to ask both surgeons of course. Hemoglobin was 9.1 before surgery and I'm sure I need to build that up as well. Any and all comments are welcome!

Wish List Date

Nov 04, 2014

Anybody else have one of those?  LOL

I have a date in my head that would be just perfect for me!  December 19th!  That way I would not have to take many PTO days as my company shuts down between Christmas and New Year.  Alternatively, December 23rd would be equally as nice, but I'm pretty sure no surgeries will be scheduled the week of Christmas (I don't celebrate Christmas so this doesn't matter much to me).

I may be just a little ambitious with these dates as my last medically supervised visit is the day before Thanksgiving.  I just wish my surgeon's office would allow me to be penciled in pending insurance approval.  Here is my perfect timeline (in my head:):

Last medically supervised visit:  November 26th

Submitted to insurance:             December 1st

Approval from insurance:           December 8th

Surgery Date:                           December 23rd

Return to work:                         January 6th

Hey...a girl can wish, can't she?!!!

8 lbs lost since last weigh-in

Oct 29, 2014

Needlees to say I was pleasantly surprised.  8 lbs in a month is pretty good for me. Just a tad bit suspicious of that number tho.

Had an endometrial biopsy today. After I get those results may have to have a hysterectomy. My blood count was nine and he's concerned about that.   Said dr. Inman may not even do surgery with it that low.  Im going to talk to I'm hematologist about getting an iron infusion. I really want to have wls before hysterectomy. I guess I have to wait and see!

Bleeding for 28 days and chemo (for lupus) not working..

Oct 26, 2014

Really feeling miserable! No energy to do anything, and no hope that things will get better any time soon. Trying to hold off having a hysterectomy until after WLS. Just venting...

I feel extremely DUMB!!!

Oct 15, 2014

(Ya'll better not make fun of me either!)

i got my dumb checklist a while ago! Some things were checked and some things weren't! In my haste and excitement I started doing all the things that were NOT checked, instead of the things checked which include things that I now don't think I need! Pulmonary/cardiac clearance, TSH level, dietary consult are all things that I've done and now I'm second-guessing my decision. Eek! Guess I'll be call Coral tomorrow.

Horror Stories?

Sep 28, 2014

So a friend of mine (not a super close friend more like an acquaintance) finally tells me the story of her health issues.  She has been sick and not working for at least 2 years.  And I am always taking her 7 year old for her (I have a 7 year old too).  She tells me that years ago she had RNY at the same facility that I did.  The surgeon did something wrong and she had an aneurysm of some sort in her bowel somewhere that wasn't caught.  She was bleeding internally for years and had several surgeries and almost died because they couldn't find the bleed.  She has constant infections in her gut and is still not 100%.  She doesn't know that I'm planning to have the surgery.  She said her sister-in-law wanted to get it, and she was in tears begging her not to.  She said she definitely regrets the surgery.

How do you all deal with the negative comments?

Pulmonary clearance...CHECK!

Sep 23, 2014

That was easy! Next up, 2 more visits with the Bariatrician! What was I stressing about?  I even have my TSH level done back in May! Hopefully insurance doesn't require a more recent one.

My only last concern is the size of my liver. Anyone else have this worry? I'm on methotrexate (chemo) and I'm pretty sure I have fatty liver disease. I've read that if your liver is too large after they cut, they might not complete the surgery. I welcome any and all thoughts
