July 1, 2010.....
It has been 7 yrs since I had my gastric bypass surgery.......I was blessed not to have any major post op issues. I have kept 130 lbs off, it still takes work and patience, but its manageable. I have learned how to eat properly, my children who are now 19, 17, and 9 have learned through my example. My baby boy doesn't even remember when "mommy was fat".
To newbies or people considering surgery, I would just like to remind you of how important it is to keep up on your vitamins, your protein intake and keep close watch on your iron levels...the drawback that I have experienced is becoming anemic, and thats because my body can't absorb iron properly and my hematologists are convinced that its due to the surgery. I have to take B12 injections or through a nasal spray, and I also have to take iron therapy intravenously every few months because the iron supplements just aren't being absorbed.
I don't regret the path that I have taken and I am SO glad that I opted for weight loss surgery, the options that are available today, weren't that common 7 yrs ago, so me having the actual "stomach stapling" procedure seems drastic, I even had the open procedure, which means I was cut open, the laproscopic option wasn't used by my surgeon at that time. I haven't had any plastic surgery, I'm still debating on the tummy tuck, but Ron,( yes, my baby is still around...it was rocky for a while) doesn't have a problem with me, and I think I look ok........
Good luck to anyone considering surgery.....no regrets.....
