I’ve been wanting to get WLS for about 3 years now. I didn’t have insurance so I got off the couch got a really good job with awesome benefits! Little did I know, it was the start of my battle! I went to a local Dr. and was interested in the BAN and he approved me but my insurance denied me! My insurance stopped covering WLS in January of 2008 and I was hired in November of 2007. My benefits didn’t kick in until it was too late. I really let that get me down and said to myself.....GOD is this a sign that it’s just not for me? Well, I kept putting it off and gaining more and more weight. A few friends of mine got their BAN and I was so jealous, thinking that should be me! Then one afternoon in July 2010 I looked at myself and said wow you’re getting huge.....so I started looking into the surgery again! This time I knew insurance would denied me and I would have to pay cash. How was I going to do this on my own because my family didn’t believe in paying for something I should be able to do on my own (diet)! I wasn’t going to let this get me down because when I stepped on the scale is was tipping at 296 pounds with no health problems but not waiting them to start either I told myself, If I didn’t do this now before I hit 300 pounds then in my eyes there was no hope! I told myself "you can’t let you get that big".....so on December 18, 2010 I went to weight wise again this time ready for some tough love. They put me on a diet right away and it was tough but I followed everything they said and it worked. Dr. Broussard said he wouldn’t do surgery if I didn’t get 30 pounds off before so from December 18, 2010 to today February 25, 2011 I have lost over 22 pounds and working on my last 8 pounds. Every time I walk into the weight wise office they are always telling how good I am doing and some patients will take years to get that extra 30 pounds off.....they knew I was ready! I am currently scheduled for surgery (sleeve) on March 1, 2011 (just a few days away) and I am so excited! Yes I changed my mind after more research and decided that the sleeve was better for me! My PA said "girl you’re so pretty and this surgery? Well, let’s just say I can’t wait to see you in six months!!!" This has been the best thing I have done for myself in years and I am ready to feel and look even more beautiful.......if you are thinking about WLS, STOP! Just do it! The photos I have posted are me now and I can’t wait to post photos of me in 6 months to a year.....My mom said "they are creating a monster!" LOL
