Been Awhile...

Jan 02, 2009

Haven't posted anything here in a long time.  I still visit the forums regularly though.  Mostly the RNY and main forums.  So anyway, here it is 2009...wow!  I'm 18 months out from my surgery, down about a total of 160 pounds.  I hover right around 170-174 these days, and I have for months now.  Saw 168 for one brief and shining moment one morning...lol...  I'd like to get into the 160's, but if I don't, that's okay.  I know I'm packin' at least 10 pounds worth of hanging, sagging, swinging, skin...ugh!  It really is quite disgusting, but whatever.  Hopefully I can talk insurance into a tummy tuck this summer after school/work is out.  Gotta start getting all my little rashes documented by the  doctor....
I've been really complication free, thank goodness.  A bit of a low blood sugar problem now and then, but nothing too serious.  Geez, ya can't win...went from diabetic, too high,  to being too low now!

Well......it's been a long time!  Things are going really well, I've had no major trouble at all.  The occasional ickies once in awhile if I take that one bite too many.  I've lost 135 pounds now.  That is a LOT, isn't it?!  I wish I could "see" it....I can tell by my clothes, I got in a size freakin' 12 pair of jeans!!!  I never in a million years would have thought that possible.  But, it's weird, most days I feel just as fat as I ever was.  I guess its true that it takes awhile for your head to catch up with the rest of you.
Anyway, if I can lose another 40 pounds or so and then talk insurance into a tummy tuck, I'll be clam happy!!

Well, it's been awhile.  I'm just not so good at this blogging stuff.  No time!  It's been over 3 months since surgery, things have been going well.  I'm down about 73 pounds...woo hoo!  I feel better, my knees and back especially.  I have more energy too...although I'll never be a ball of fire! ;o)
Work has been a bit stressfull.  I'm driving a school bus as well as my regular para job.  I leave the house about 5:30am and don't get home til around 5pm.  Some days I am just bone tired, exhausted.
The Aerosmith concert was AWESOME!  Konocti was a great place to see them.  Can't wait until they hit the Left Coast again!
And oh my goodness...I can't believe my BMI is in the 30's!!!

Surgery has come and gone...made it through with flying colors...completely uneventful!  I was really, really sick to my stomach after surgery, but it settled down after they changed pain meds.  The hospital staff was wonderful, couldn't ask for a nicer bunch of people.  I was happy to come home though and get some sleep!  Pain has been minimal, not bad at all.  The worst side-effect has been that I'm tired, bone tired.  I think it's getting a bit better though.  Went to the 1 week check on Monday, found I had lost almost 12 pounds!  Not as much as some people, but I'll take it!  I have a check-up with the surgeon on Monday and hopefully will have lost some more.  I don't see how I couldn't have...sure not eating much!

ICK!  I just had to drink the magnesium citrate laxative stuff...it was NASTY!  Now I feel like I could hurl.  Hope it stays down!  I've been packing my bag and finishing up laundry.  I think I'm good to go.  I have to take the hibiclens sponge shower tonight and another in the morning before we leave.
Well, I had to go lay down for awhile so I wouldn't throw up.  I feel better now, thank goodness.  If that stuff had come back up, there is NO way I could've swallowed any again!  Yuck.  Oh, and it does work well.  I've been in and out of the bathroom a lot!!  Hopefully not many more times...I have to get in the shower soon and then TRY to get some sleep.  3am is waaaay to early to have to get up.  I thought my usual 4:30am for work was bad!

It's getting closer and closer....I'm ready.  I know this is going to be a life changing event, but I don't think it will really set in until after surgery just HOW much of a life change it's going to be.  I am excited to see how well I can do, how much weight I'll be able to lose, and how GOOD I am going to feel!
I can't even remember the last time I was under 200 pounds....maybe 8th or 9th grade?  That's a looong time ago!  When I hit 199, the whole countryside will know it.  I realize that's over 100 pounds to lose and it's gonna take awhile, but now I know that I actually have a shot at it!!!

Had my pre-op appointments today, one with the surgeon and one at the hospital.  I've lost 10 pounds....yay!  Dr. Stone was pleased with that and warned me that one big pig-out binge could undo that progress.  I guess that was his way of saying, "No last suppers!"  LOL....
Because I really don't have any co-morbidities, he didn't order much in the way of pre-op tests.  Just some blood tests and a urinalysis.  Fine with me!  ;o)  I have to be at the hospital at 5:30am Monday morning.  I met a couple of women that are having surgery the same day, but with Dr. Nichols, Dr. Stones' associate....that's cool, maybe we'll be roomies...lol...
I am starting to get occasional "nervous stomach" syndrome....I just try not to dwell on the whole surgery part of the deal.  Dr. Stone says he thinks I will have good results and an uneventful surgery, so that's encouraging!!

Yay me!  Every Friday at work people take turns bringing in goodies for snack time and set it out in the staff room.  Today there were chocolate and blueberry muffins, salami, crackers and cheeses, and assorted fruits.  I only ate one SMALL piece of cheese....I've done pretty darn good at sticking to this pre-op diet.  A couple of weeks ago I would have mowed through a couple of muffins and a whole stack of cheese and crackers!  It really wasn't that hard to resist.  I know that doing this diet is improving my chances for a complication free surgery, so it's definitely worth it.  I'm actually getting full now from the low-cal meals I have for dinner.  Hopefully, I'll have lost several pounds when I see the surgeon on Wednesday. ;o)

Day 4 of the pre-surgery diet.  It's still going okay so far.  Do have to fight the evening munchies though...that time of day has ALWAYS been a problem!  I do think a lot of it is simply habit, rarely is it genuine hunger.  I just have to find something else to do to get my mind off of food until the urge passes.  One week from today and I'll be through the final pre-op physical and tests.....

So here I am on day 2 of the 2 week diet.  It's not too bad, I did get kind of hungry at work today though.  Just drank some more water.  ;o)  Two weeks from today and the surgery will be over and done with.  Yay!  Hopefully the anesthesia won't kick my butt like it did after my gall bladder surgery....I slept for about two days after that.  Couldn't stay awake for anything...just long enough to go to the bathroom and get something to drink.  I'd like to be up and walking ASAP after this surgery...the sooner the better!
