My day has come!!

May 16, 2010

I have decided to pay cash for my sleeve gastrectomy since my insurance will not pay for surgery without a weight loss history of a BMI 40 or higher for 5 years.  What a joke!!  So, I should remain overweight and unhealthy for 5 years before they will help me?  That is a crime.  At any rate, I am so happy with my decision and now have a surgery date of June 22!!  I share this date with a very special friend of mine who has inspired me immensely.  She has been with me since the beginning of my journey and I cannot thank her enough for answering my thousands of questions.  I know I'll have many more, so I thank you in advance as well!!  My family is being supportive and I believe my Mom is going to help me out with the financial part.  That is a huge relief since last year when I tried to get surgery she was not supportive and downright objected.  Being a nurse, she tends to be that way for what she considers "unnecessary surgery".  Unnecessary?  When you weigh 225 lbs and have tried every diet under the sun since you were 11, I find this surgery "necessary" for me to continue living and finally stop hiding behind weight as my excuse for many things.  I know most people don't think I hide anything!!  But, I do hide some feelings that hold me back from dating, etc.  I'm looking so forward to my surgery date and am counting down the days.  Thanks to everyone who has and will continue to support me.  I know I'll need it!!
