I was much thinner when I was a teenager. I actually had a very nice shaped body. After I graduated high school at 18, I started to gain some weight but didn't think much of it. I married at 20 and continued to gain weight but my (now ex) husband was big and he liked me the way I was. I had my daughter two years later but didn't gain all that much weight during pregnancy. It wasn't until after she was born that I gained the bulk of my weight. At that time I found out I had an under-active thyroid and was put on medication but I still kept gaining. I was working and very stressed out because my marriage wasn't that great but I stuck with it for 23 years and kept eating. I tried different diets over the years, weight watchers, diet pills, rice diet, slim fast. and even tried joining the gym. I would lose a few pounds but get discouraged and bored very easily so I never stayed with any one diet for very long. Plus with my husband was a big eater and I just went along. I am turning 50 this year and have decided it's time for me to take off this weight and be healthier. I now have type 2 diabetes, high cholesterol, high blood pressure, hiatal hernia, obstructive sleep apnea, and arthritis which isn't helping when I'm trying to exercise. It hurts to walk, and I have a hard time going up and down stairs. I am on several medications for all my illnesses and I want to be able to not take them anymore. So I have decided to go take this journey and hopefully it will help me gain control of my eating and help me to lose the weight. It's a long road and I hope to make some friends along the way. I would like to have the Lap Band done but a couple of the doctors I spoke with told me that they don't recommend it because the band may slip. So I may end up having the gastric bypass. We will see.
