Day 9 after surgery... Blog from myfitnesspal.com 6/26/2010

Well I'm still here, made it through surgery and...

Yay !  I did it.  It hurt like hell, doc said I would feel just  as I did at the pre-op appointment.  That was a big lie, not sure why he said that.  Maybe he thought I was going to chicken out, it was in my thoughts every now and then.  I don't do so well with anesthesia and was having a hard time breathing after.  He usually sends his patients home  at the end of the day but I was not doing well, didn't feel well enough to watch tv or chat with my hubby.  I did get to go home the next evening though after my breathing was better and I could get up and walk and drink 50 oz of water before going home.

The small opening to my stomach was swollen closed at first, so it hurt if I drank too fast and it would stop at the top and felt like someone standing on my chest for a few seconds, then it would get better.   I'm allerigic to a lot of pain meds and I needed to take a liquid Hydrocodone and I think a lot of my problems was that.  I was so woozy and nauseous and getting chest pains. Dave or the kids needed to help me get up from bed or a chair the 1st four days.  Honestly I was wishing I hadn't done it on day 3 and 4.  So the first 4-5 days weren't fun but I got through them.   The next 2 after that were hard because I was starting to feel very hungry only on clear sugar free liquids until day 8.

I'm at day 9 and have been getting protein supplements finally, and boy did it taste good that first one.  Starting to feel better.  My stomach still hurts a little when I get up from a chair and have to hold my belly getting out of bed but can finally sleep on my left side a little but not my right.  I think the swelling has gone down because I am having a little easier time getting my water, broth and protein supplements in.

Haven't done so well getting my walks in, but I get nervous going by myself because I still feel a little off and weak.   I've walked to our stop sign a few times especially the first few days because they worry about blood clots after surgery.

So before surgery they weighed me in at 344.5 and after surgery the next morning 349.5 gained 5 lbs from the liquid IV fluids.  I went to my 1 week check up on day  5 and I weighed 340.2.  I see my doc again for my 2 week check up next week.  I really hope I lose some more.

7 hours to surgery time....

Wow I am about 7 hours away for a huge change in my life.  I'm excited and scared at the same time.  I have yo yo dieted for over 23 years and just weigh more after the diet/lifestyle change.  The feast or famine thing my body just thinks it should add more weight not knowing when that is going to happen again.  I still eat about the same as I did in my 20's.

So I need help and am thankful my husband has good insurance right now so thought this it, I better go for it.  My body isn't doing well at the weight I am at now 347.2 lbs, actually I started feeling crummy at 260 lbs, but now things just are way worse.  Diabetes, pain everywhere, can't breathe well at night and have a pillow to push fat away from my throat and have a horrible sleep apnea machine to help me breathe through the night.  I am writing these down so I can look back and remember how miserable I am now before the surgery.

I am looking forward to being able to go on long walks with my family and friend Nancy.  To not being in pain all the time too.

10 minutes to midnight and my daughter brought me one more chewable vitamin and some water because no eating or drinking after midnight and then no food for a week, no protein drink either, just clear sugar free liquids.

Well I'm off to bed up at 4:30 to be at hospital at 5:15 am surgery at 7 am.

Good night,

Dana
