I Did It!!

Apr 12, 2012

Even up until the moment i was laying on the operating room table, it seemed surreal- like something that somebody else would do, not me. The last thing i remember was a woman's kind voice saying to me: "It's okay, I bet you're asking yourself How did I get myself into this!?" Tell me about it. I couldnt believe i was actually going through with Roux N Y. Six months (almost to the day) of pre-op testing: bloodwork, sleep study, upper endoscopy, psych eval, insurance approval - and here I was finally going through with it. The preapproval process was blessedly easy for me. I needed to complete six months of nutritional guidance which i received through my surgeons office. I had an upper endoscopy, a sleep study comprised of sleeping with a special helmet on for a night, and a psych eval which was not nearly as bad as i thought it would be. I had to go out of network to use the therapisst recommended by my surgeon but I was able to submit a claim for it and i got back $100 of the $125 that i paid out of pocket for it. When it came time to submit my package to the insurance company, I was so nervous that the last few months would be in vain and that my fate was in the hands of one person at my insurance company that might be having a bad day. Once again, i need not have worried and i received my approval within 72 hours of when my surgeons office submitted it. That was just crazy! I couldn't believe it! I've been home from the hospital for just under 24 hours now. I'm looking forward to gaining more mobility and feeling better about myself. I hope to meet lots of folks on here who have gone through the same experiences and emotions!
