Well, I was given the friendly email reminder that it is my anniversary date and that I should update my profile. I do want to encourage others in their own travels through this journey of weightloss so here I am. It has been 7 years since I had the DS and I have never to this day regretted it. Many, many things in my life have changed in the last years though. I went to school and graduated magna cum laude with a 3.9 this past December. I have divorced, remarried, moved to two different states (out of NY into Louisiana, and now Im in Indiana) and have become a grandmother this past mothers day!
As far as my weightloss, I have maintained over the years and I feel this is due to the type of surgery I chose. I know a number of people that had the RNY that were not so fortunate. I get my blood checked, take vitamins and calcium most days...when I remember...and try to still eat proteins, veggies then the carbs. Issues with too many carbs or too many raw veggies (esp tomatoes) still cause some bowel issues. I have found Devrom helps in that area.
8 months ago I finally went for plastic surgery. My wonderful Dr, Janet Turkel in Indy is a godsend. I had my arms done and my belly. I am loving life! I didnt think the skin was too bad before the PS but looking at before and after I realize how bad it really was. I am wearing a size 6 even though I weigh in about 158-162 most days. It took me a while not to look at what the numbers are on the scale but rather how I felt and what I could wear.
I am thankful to Dr William Peters in Pennsylvania for all that he and his wife did for me all those years ago. It is hard to believe it has been 7 years already! There is no health issues anymore, no diabetes, no high BP, no high cholesterol...all gone thanks to WLS. I am currently also working 3 jobs, one full time office job which I just started a few weeks back and I waitress/bartend on evening a week. My husband and I also run a DJ/karaoke business on the side which keeps us busy on the weekends. Since neither of us has kids/family in the area this is good.
