A Lil about ME!! :)

May 07, 2010

Hello  All,

I just wanted to introduce myself and tell you a little bit about myself and about my life since surgery.

My name is Stephanie. I am 5'4 and 30 years old. I started my weight loss journey YEARS ago. I've tried things from Weight Watchers, to Atkins, to B-12 shots and hoodia, etc... Before I turned 30, I decided I wanted a change, a more permanent one. No more Yo-Yoing.  In May of 2009, I reached 306 lbs. I never thought I'd ever get so overweight. While everyone was still saying I was beautiful, and I hadn't developed any health related issues yet, I still wanted to get healthier, and be spitfire sexy. lol.  So, I decided to look into WLS.  I found a well known and respected surgeon in my area, and began the process for insurance approval. I was approved after following a 6 month program and having lost 15 lbs in the process.

I had RNY Gastric Bypass on December 3, 2009.  as of May 5, 2010 I'd lost 73 lbs since surgery. My path since surgery has not been easy. I've had a lot of complications, but little directly associated with the surgery.  Two weeks after my WLS, two of my incisions were infected. I ended up having to have them opened, and had to clean and pack them twice daily. The end of December, I got a kidney stone and was hospitilized and had surgery to remove the stone. After that surgery, I've had an ongoing UTI. I was in major pain, but it didnt seem right. Test after test, finally revealed I had Gallstones. So, February 17 I ended up having my Gallbladder removed. Once that was removed, and I was still having pain, I was continually tested to find my UTI was not going away. I had another surgery to have a stent placed due to narrowing of my ureter the middle of April. As of now, I have no infection, but I still am having major kidney pain. The doctors are still running test after test to try to figure out the source and cure the problem.

The reason I share all of this is not to discourage any of you who have had or are wanting to have the WLS, but to share my experience to see if others have had similar or related issues. No matter all of the issues that I've had, I would have this surgery again and again!!! I have a lot more energy. I feel sexier than before, and I truly believe I will prevent many major illnesses such as high blood pressure and diabetes.

If you have any questions or comments, feel free. I am open and willing to share in my experiences and provide my ideas comments and suggestions. Thanks for reading!
