My story is one which has brought me across several continents. My history is one rooted both in the soil of my African ancestors, across oceans to the Southeast Asian Islands and grounded here in the American experience.

From my early age, beyond the academics and political chases was a habit which formed from the conviction of my family's desire to raise me with a healthy outlook on life. My experience with those around me throughout the years has taught me the incredible value of the human body, the fragility of life and the expectations of our social peers. This lesson has created a sense of responsibility both internally and outwardly. I believe that the right to life must be complemented with a sense of moral dignity. The stories of our journeys cannot be dismissed as simply irresponsible decisions, ignorance and purposeful negligence of health.

Fundamentally while we strive to change this nation in many ways and hope to create a world more united and focused, we must start locally within our own community. The internet has become a medium for this challenge and this burden is no more my responsibility then it is yours. Whether you are one who is looking for the support or one who is giving your time and heart, know this: everyone who reaches out for help deserves no dismissal, and anyone who strives for change deserves no condemnation. We all have faltered, we all have challenges, just as we all have strengths and talents. When we reach that epilogue, let the critics of the next generation look back on us with favor. Let us create waves which shake the foundations of the status quo, break down age-old barriers of misunderstanding, stale misinformation and broken relationships in this fabric which we call home.

My story is my own. It may not be inspiring to all, or an epiphany for any. Nevertheless, this much is true: if we believe in the merits of our struggle and the truth of our battle, then it is worth fighting for. Together we push onward with the old common creed which threads us in unity: Yes we can.

You may have your story and it is by no means less credible than my own. Let it unfurl in time. Tell your story. This is your moment.
