Down 16 lbs since surgery, 34 lbs since I started the process.

The liquid diet is the worst part right now, but definitely bearable. Started back to work yesterday (23rd) and felt great, but a bit sluggish today. Guess my body still needs some healing time and is telling me to take it easy

It is always amazing how time flies by. It has been one week since my gastric sleeve and recovery is going well. My taste buds have definitely changed, as everything tastes sweeter now...too sweet. Having a difficult time getting enough protein as the Isopure even tastes too sweet.

Was supposed to be on clear liquids for two weeks after surgery, but was not getting enough nourishment so I have starting consuming "cloudy" liquids (yogurt, soups, protein shakes). That is making things much better. Fortunately, I have had very little nausea since the surgery. The times I do feel nausea coming on then I take deep breathes and this makes it go away.

Woke up after 5 hour of straight sleep needing pain meds, but after they were administered then feeling great.

Going home today and looking forward to resting in my own recliner and sleeping in my own bed.

Finally passed some gas, but no BM yet. Hand which the have the IV in was really swollen, so they stopped the IV (for an hour or so at least). Nurse said the potassium and vitamins in the IV are what is causing the swelling.

Speaking of nurses, I have been very fortunate to have some good nurses who have been very helpful and nice.

The surgery went well.  Had a little problem with breathing in post-op and had to have a breathing treatment (asthma). Have already been walking laps around the halls. Ended up getting 3 hours straight sleep without pain meds. Woke up in pain, but not unbearable pain.

My wife has been wonderful taking care of me, and the nurses have been good also. Matt, Dawn, Zachary, Marcus, Suzie and Kameron came to see me after the surgery, but I dont recall much.

Matt, Dawn and Zachary came by this afternoon, as did Patrick. In the evening the Marcus, Suzie and Kameron came by to visit. Glad I was lucid and feeling good when they all stopped by. Kameron fell and hit her head on the floor, and she had a big knot on her head when they left. Hope all is ok with her.

Less than 24 hours before the gastric sleeve surgery. The liquid diet has been bad enough, but today on clear liquids only. Gonna be a long couple of weeks after the surgery on a liquid diet.

Taking it easy today, partially because it is Sunday and also because I feel weak after having been on liquid diet for over a week. I believe I am getting enough protein (at least 100g a day), so hopefully not losing muscle.

Will update again after the surgery.

That was fast. Just heard back from the scheduler that Aetna said no problem switching from bypass to sleeve gastrectomy.  Feel better about this procedure since malnutrition and long term risks associated with gastric bypass won't be a concern.

Well, only four days until my surgery. At this point not sure if I am having the bypass or sleeve procedure. Went to see the surgeon this morning for final walk through and mentioned that I had originally wanted the sleeve procedure but that my insurance company did not reimburse for that procedure. He asked which insurance company I had, and when I told him Aetna he told me they recently began approving for the sleeve procedure and that they should allow him to perform that procedure on Monday.   I proceeded directly to the scheduling person and asked her to contact Aetna about switching the procedure. Waiting for her call back. Will update once I get a response.
