16 Days Post-Op

Jun 12, 2009

Hi All!

Well... as you can see from my title it has been 16 days since I had lapband surgery. WOW! Who knew the "surgery" was going to be the EASIEST part of this. The hospital thing was sort of scary, alright not sort of, very! BUT... as far as 'pain' goes... they keep you NICE AND HAPPY! I had surgery around 6:30pm (I know.. late! but the Dr.'s were running late) and I stayed overnight and left at 11am on May 28th. (P.S. I love NJ Bariatric Center - their entire staff is amazing!) Kerry stayed overnight with me =) She was amazing every step of the way. So was my sister =) Came home and was waited on by Kerry for the next week or so! She spoils me oh so much. I found it difficult to sleep for about 7 days. and omg the GAS PAINS! I'm not even going to go there right now. I walked so damn much and chewed Malox and it took like 6-7 days to finally get rid of the gas! I'm already back at work... came back 11 days after surgery... I feel GREAT! My 3 scars are healing really good also. Physically... this surgery was a breeze minus gas pains. (Thank you obesityhelp for warning me about the pains, the glbt forum is awesome!  You are such an amazing support system! )

Mentally... I'm getting there. It's a process of course. Tracking EVERY LITTLE piece of food I put into my mouth and at the end of the day calculating total calories/fat/protein. (I made a form on Word if anyone is interested and I keep them in a binder) It makes me feel accountable, and believe me... I NEED that!  I've been doing this since 5/7/09 when my 1,200 calorie diet started. I took about a 2 week break from 5/22 till this past Tuesday (because of the liquids). I've been back on the elliptical since 6 days post-op and have been trying hard to get my butt back into gear. It's in my living room and I really don't have an EXCUSE for missing a day... but I have. I'm on softs foods and am thrilled about it because the liquid diet was HELL for me. (Thank god my surgeon didn't require a liquid diet pre-op!) I never really found a protein drink I liked. I drank the DesignerWhey Protein Blitz - one a day with my nose closed. lol. I'm making smart choices and eating a hell of a lot of protein!!!! like 70-80 grams a day and maintaining less than 1,000 cal!! Gotta love tuna and canned chicken breast!

My girlfriend is also doing an AMAZING job loosing weight minus WLS. She is looking fabulous in her size 36 jeans! hehe. She is down 30lbs in 2.5 months!!!!!! Damn.. does she look good, makes me wanna... =x

Anyways... I think that is it for now.. I am a school teacher and my yr ends June 26th (UGH- SO LATE this year!!!) There is also a million and one things to do at the end of the year.... I can not wait for summer to begin! NJ PRIDE was awesome!!! Can't wait for NYC in 3 weeks and maybe Philly this Sunday. Oh and Cape May in 2 weeks. I love having family down there!

Hope all is well for you out there in WLS land!!
Phyllis
